Ps3 discovery issue

I'm pretty sure the PS3 sends out its own alive notice when it's booted up (equivalent to the "search for media servers"), and I don't think I've seen this lag on my system with the new version. But that could have also been luck with timing it with the PMS alive notice. I'll check some more when I get home.

It is true that from version 1.09 there is some change in announcements because now it seems that PMS never answers for PS3 announcements that says "I am here" and waits for server answers.
Now it seems that PMS only sends announcements every 3minutes but not in time when PS3 asks for it. Version 1.04 worked little bit better if I remember well

I had the same issue. Worked almost perfectly in 1.04, but 1.10.1 the PS3 couldn't find the PS3 Media Server at all. Changed no settings but re-installed 1.04 over the top and it's working again fine.

Although I'm at work now, the trace didn't show anything was wrong, but the avi's I could easily play under 1.04 would try to play, then come up as 'data is corrupted' - worked again fine on 1.04. So I'll stick with that version. The only thing I need to do to make it work is delay the startup of the PS3MS for about 2 minutes after bootup, found a small free-ware app to do that for me.

Same for me.

It worked like a charm with 1.04... I've installed 1.10.1 yesterday... my PS3 is not visible anymore...
I've downloaded again 1.04 and installed it... works back great as before...

So there is a big issue within 1.10.1 version !!!

Hope this could be fixed in next release,

For me it is visible but you have to wait for next announcement to be catched by PS3

i only use windows firewall, with same rules for v1.03/v1.04 (working) and v1.09/v1.10.1 (not working)

Windows 7, 64 bit

so the only difference is the version number of PS3MS with the one difference of the longer time between the ALIVE messages.

Can you elaborate on exactly what you created to port forward 5001?

My PC & PS3 use to see each other, but then stopped. This was with version 1.04. I have since upgraded to 1.10.1, but they still don't see each other.
This is with McAfee firewall disabled.
I've changed nothing on the router which makes me think it is the PC, but I cannot find what that is.

Isn't it the other way? Forward the port 5001 to the IP of the PS3?

I don't actually have a problem with the PS3/PC discovery.
But i was wondering if there was a way to speed up the discovery process because the way i use it is that my laptop is upstairs and the ps3 is downstairs. So i start up the PS3 Media server and then go downstairs to turn on the ps3. Doing it this way, it seems the ps3 takes quite a long time to find the media server, but if i restart the media server (ie going back upstairs) it will discover the ps3 pretty much straight away... Is there a way to fix this so i don't have to go back upstairs to restart the server?
