Hi PMS beta junkies,

I compiled recent snapshot PMS 1.21.0 (r453). Please be aware that this version is still work in progress. Installation and usage may result in error conditions or unwanted behaviour.
So please read the changelog: http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/source/list. Here you can see recent changes. Some changes might be useful for you, other changes may introduce new problems.

Changed to new versioning system (no longer includes SVN revision number)
Added instability warning in window title if the version isn't meant for release

You can get PMS 1.21.0 at my blog: http://otmanix.de/english/2011/01/25/ps3-media-server-1-21-0-r453/

I provide NO application support via PM, so please post your question to the forum.

OK. I couldn't overcome the temptation and so I compiled and installed the new version 1.21.0 (r453) on Windows 7 32 Bit.
Great thanks to Otmanix for his excellent description on How to compile PMS for Windows 7 :)

Unfortunately, I get an error on playing dvr-ms files which doesn't exist for the actual subjunk build.
The debug.log says the following
Code: Select all

The official version doesn't have the dvr-ms fix that mine does. I'll commit it in a minute while I remember :)

Thanks a lot. :) By the way, I realized a stutter playback (picture jumps a little bit) for mp4-files. Not because of the network (I have Gbit LAN), but it seems that it loose some pictures. Sound is OK and no stuttering.
Any idea would be appreciated.
Edit: This happens with the SubJunk SB12 build, too. If I replace the mencoder.exe (30369) with the newest 32735-version, the files doesn't play anymore.

Postby maccroche » Thu Jan 27, 2011 10:35 am

Good morning,

Thank you for the possibility to get compiled version of the beta version!
It is great to see that the development is going further!!!!

The test environment is the following:
* Current version installed: Java PS3 Media Server v1.20.453
* XP with SP 3
* Sony Bravia KDL 32V5500, firmware PKG1.741EA
* Java build 1.6.0_20-b02
* PMSencoder 1.3.0

Files description (using Media_info) are included too: See the file Media Info2.txt.
The test file is named testXXX.XXX where XXX is the corresponding extension.
I tested the following formats avi, divx, flv, gif, ico, jpg, m4v, mkv, mov, mp3, mp4, mpg, ogg, ogm, png, thm, tif, vlc, wav, wma, wmf
With the videos I tried to play, stop, go faster, go slower, go back...
With the sounds to go further, back, stop, start again....

Debug logs (debug1.log and debug2.log) and conf files are included see below.

Here are feedbacks about PS3 Media Server 1.21.0 r453 found on http://otmanix.de/english/2011/01/25/ps ... 21-0-r453/

* general:
? is it possibly to support the extension vlc??

* Installation:
- there is now per default a shortcut installed for PMS on the desktop! Please allow the user to choose if he/she want it (checkbox). I hate such decision taken without the agreement of the user.
- the web.conf file is now in the default user path. Please document this change. What is the master, the prioritary file? I mean if you have a web.conf in the PMS installation folder, close to the exe for all the users?
- the French traduction is not completly correct:
In the third tab "confi. générale" some items are still in English.
In the fourth tab "navigation", the info " hide #trancode# folder" and "Hide empty..." are displayed in French and English.
--> See some changes I already made in viewtopic.php?f=12&t=54&p=28327#p28327

* Videos:
+ all the thumbnails are displayed correctly.
- Would it be possible to see also the seconds for the duration of a film? Currently hours, minutes are displayed, but not the seconds. Some files are short.
- There are some problem with the correct displaying of the time, after going faster, slower: for the file testavi.avi with a duration 19 seconds, the file was displayed again and the time displayed goes further, after the 19 seconds until 38 seconds.
- When you restart the file from the client, the film doesn't always goes back from the very beginning, it seems that it goes further from the previous "resume".
- the mpg files (testmpg.mpg and testmpg2.mpg) were not displayed at all.
- the file testmov.mov was not played at all.
- there was a scratch (server doesnt respond) for the file testogv.ogv. PS: VLC can not play this file too. See at the end of the debug file debug1.zip

* Sounds:
+ ogg, wma: ok
- With the file testmp3.mp3 when you go further in the time, the file was restarted from the beginning. It works for the other sounds formats.
- the file testwav.wav was not played at all! Using in bravia5500.conf "TranscodeAudio=PCM" instead of "TranscodeAudio=MP3", there is big noise. --> is there a solution for this issue?

* Images:
+ jpg OK
- there are no thumbnails
- ico, gif, gif animated, png, tiff, thm, wmf are not displayed. --> is there a solution for this issue?

Log & conf files:
debug.log part 1 + web.conf + pms.conf + bravia5500.conf + pmsencoder.conf + media info.txt + debug.log part 2

PS3 Media Server is very good and it is a pleasure to test and use it and participate in the development!
Thank you!

Next tests are coming with video & radio streaming.
* Current version installed: pms-setup-windows-1.21.0-SB16.exe
* XP with SP 3
* Sony Bravia KDL 32V5500, firmware PKG1.741EA
* Java build 1.6.0_24-b07
* PMSencoder 1.4.0
