Using LG LE850N / LE8500 as media renderer

Discuss alternative media renderers (not PS3) supported by PS3 Media Server (e.g. Xbox 360, TVs &c.)

Using LG LE850N / LE8500 as media renderer

Postby frapaa » Fri Jul 23, 2010 1:43 pm

Hi,

Forgive me if this post should be under "the official thread for alternative renderers", but it looks like posts are drowning there?

Anyway, I have just bought the LG 42LE850N/8500, and want to use the pms to stream media from my MacBook Pro. It didn't work out of the box (no profiles I suppose), so I wonder if anyone in here has tried this before with any success? I will try some more on my own, and I'll post any configuration I find working, but if someone else has a working configuration already, please share it in this thread.

Best regards,
Frank

Ok, it seems like I had some issues in my network that blocked the communication between the TV and the computer.

After I fixed that, the tv and ps3 media server found each other with out any configuration (the LG tv showed up on the pms as a WD Live box). Everything seems to work straight out of the box, except audio from mkv-files. I have read somewhere that this is a common problem, not related to a specific tv or to the pms?

*update: just discovered an exception in the traces-tab, could it be a pms issue after all?

The LE8500 form LG does not support DTS audio in the MKV formats. You should convert the MKV files to AC audio format.

Not sure if you got a fix or not, but this works EXCELLENT for my LG TV.
I take no credit for the config file, as I found it somewhere else, but it was the first and last thing I had to try to get mine working.

  1. Quit Playstation Media Server
  2. Create a text file in your PS3 Media Server\renderers folder called LGSmartTV.conf
  3. Open the file you created with Notepad. (or any other text editor)
  4. Add the following text to the file.
  5. Save the file.
  6. Start PMS back up and it should show your TV as one of the devices found.

Code: Select all
