Can't find PS3 / Network issues? Read this first!

click on GENERAL CONFIG and
1 ---- put in the IP address of your mac
2 ---- select "eng(0)"
3 ---- SAVE
4 ---- QUIT

Restart

red X is gone, connects to PS#

I tried all methods above and in every other forum, google search you can think of.
Eventually i simply pulled the power cable out the back of my router waiting a few seconds plugged it back in, my playstation ip address was reset and so was that of my macbook pro (running snow leopard). [at this point i should mention that my mac and PS3 are connected to my router wirelessly {via 'airport'}]

Then i just clicked the apple>about this mac>more info...>[in left hand pane]network
then under the right pane [active services] I see airport and note the 'BSD Device Name' "en1" and the IPv4 address 192.168.x.x
then in PMS under general configuration tab i enter the above IP in the 'force IP of the server and select 'en1' from drop down.
click save, then quit. relaunch and it works.
so basically all post above work except i had to reset my router first my unplugging it.

Hi guys, I couldn't get my PMS to find my PS3 either, after a lot of searching around I found the answer over at the google code wiki on the program (http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/wiki/Tips)

I just needed to change the 'Force networking on interface' to be 'en1'
and in the 'Force IP of the server' I entered my macs IP address
(to find your macs IP address, read this: http://www.wikihow.com/Find-Your-IP-Address-on-a-Mac)

I then hit Save and nothing happened rightaway so I quit & then reopened the program and it worked rightaway.

Also - my macs firewall was on but I did edit the advanced settings in there and selected 'automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections' and once the PS3 was found it added PS3 Media Server.app in the allowed list.
(again if you don't know how: to edit your macs firewall settings, go to System Preferences > Security >Firewall)

......and I just realised I am simply repeating the post right before mine! & possibly the one before that!

If only I had realised there was more than 2 pages in this thread I would have seen that earlier and worked it out.

oh well, maybe I dumbed it down for someone who doesn't get it the first time like me

I am on Mac OS 10.6.4, PMS has worked great up until now. V 1.20.409 was working until one day it did not see PS3 anymore. I tried to change a setting, force network on setting vmnet8, now the program will not launch. Just hangs after double clicking it with no window. So I tried V 1.10.5, it will launch but still does not see the PS3. Any clues as to how to reset this program to scratch. Are there any corrupt prefs files and where might these be located?

How can I copy the text from the traces window?

I'm not sure the OSX build but I can copy and paste like normal from the Traces tab on Windows. You could also pull the information from the debug.log (see the second link above)

I can't get this to work after going through so many pages

My config:

Ps3MS: 1.20.409
Macbook with 10.6.5
Modem/Router: Motorola SURFboard Gateway SBG901 DOCSIS 2.0 Wireless Cable Modem
Receiver PS3:

Both mac and PS3 are connected via wireless.

Forced en1 and mac ip. Firewall is disabled. upnp and multicast enabled. port forwarding enabled.

Only thing that i couldn't do was 'rosetta' thing as when i right click the app, it does not show any options whatsoever.

I still can't figure out why PS3 Media Server won't work. I've spent about a week trying to set it up so I can watch 1080p movies without stuttering. If anyone could please help me out I would really, really appreciate it!

My setup is:
AirPort Express -> Wireless connection to MacBook (few years old) -> Ethernet cable to PS3

I have had MediaLink work but it still stuttered even though it was a wired connection (not sure why so I'm back to trying to set PSM up again.)

I have followed directions from this post:

Here's my settings (based on zomgheals' post):
Mac -> Ethernet
Configure Manually
IP: 10.1.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.0.0
Router: Blank
DNS: 10.1.1.1

PS3
IP: 10.1.1.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.1.1.1
Primary DNS: 10.1.1.1*

PS3 Media Server
Force en0 10.1.1.1

*Internet on PS3 does not work, however when I switch the Primary DNS to 10.0.1.1 (my AirPort Express modem) internet on PS3 works, UPnP does not (is this necessary?)
