Playing M2ts files with Dutch audio

Postby hemant » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:17 am

Hi,

I'm running on ubuntu 10.04.

I have some M2ts files to play when i move in to the trancode folder i can see selectable audio
AC3/Dutch

When i try to play the file is goes with English audio. I cannot seem to figure out why it does not pick the Dutch audio.

My MEncoder settings are like this:
Audio language priority: nld,nl,dut,dutch,eng
Subtitles: nld,nl,dut,dutch,eng,fre
Audio/Subtitle language priority: empty
Subtitles codepage: ISO-8859-15

Are you sure the audio track is not faulsly labelled dutch and is actually english? I'd check with another program like e.g. VLC if you get dutch audio out of it.
Or does the dutch audio track show up as und (undefined), which isn't included in your list of subtitles to be used?
If you always wanted to have your most recent videos at the top of the folder in the ps3 or wished you could group all videos with the same genre in one folder, have a look at pms-mlx

Solved: Playing M2ts files with Dutch audio

Postby hemant » Wed Nov 24, 2010 8:13 pm

Well i found the problem.

I replyed the movie on my PC with VLC to see if the audio tracked played ok, it was playing correct but when i Switched i all of a sudden noticed something.

The Audio track was called Nederlands

In my PMS configuration i had nederlands, so i have som knowledge regarding Linux bases systems and know they are case sensitive. So in my PMS i changed
"nederlands"to "Nederlands" and all work when i select Dutch from the trancode.

Hope this helps people with the same problems.

Maybe you can help me. My PMS.conf is;
Code: Select all
mencoder_sublangs = nl,dut,und,*
mencoder_audiolangs = nederlands,engels,en,eng,nld,nl,dut,fre,jpn,ger
mencoder_audiosublangs = en,nl;eng,nl;en,dut;eng,dut;und,nl;und,dut;*,nl;*,dut

Seems on all movies I now do have Dutch sub.
Also with Planet 51 i can see dutch sub so that's OK.
However, this movie has english and dutch Audio. I can't get the audio to work on the PS3 (both not, even not with transcoding).
Tested on my PC, can select english or dutch audio (both works!)

Here is the mediainfo;

Not absolutely sure about it, but here's my guess after having had a quick look at the code. In the ISO639 class, a mapping is being defined for each language.

For Dutch the entry is
Code: Select all
putCode("Dutch", "nl", "nld", "dut");

I'd say it is not possible to automatically play your file with subs in pms except you rename the subtitle track to nl, nld or dut. Correct me if I'm wrong ;)

I think you should try Taconaut's suggestion first. Then, if not, manually select the proper option from the #transcode# folder....if that doesn't work.......

Is it that you have no audio stream at all......meaning when INFO is up on the screen, you see no value for audio.

Or you can't get the correct audio to play automatically.

If you are seeing no audio stream.....I have seen rare files that have a DTS stream in them, but the DTS bitrate is only 755 Mbps or similar.
I could not get these files to play unless I used Popcorn MKV audio converter or manipulated them somehow. Don't know why...but just had to.

I say this because I see it shoudn't be an issue of MKVMerge version number as it was muxed with v.3.0.0.0 which DOES NOT use the header compression feature, which has been the cause of many "no audio" issues.

I will suggest this if you can't figure this file out......bear with me.

Take the file. Open MKVMerge. remux the file, but exclude Chapters and the Eng. DTS stream from the remuxed file.

So. Keep the Nederlands audio, drop the English DTS stream and the Chapters stream. If it works (the newly trimmed down MKV that is), we can go from there. This is just an experiment. Make sure to keep your current file in case this doesn't work......don't overwrite it.

:D

Our mail and post doublecrossed eachother ;) ghehe
Thanks a lot for your advise, I will try to remux the file using MKVMerge (or did you meant MKVtoolkit?)
In the meanwhile, to show i've got audio streams inside the MKV, I made a screendump at my pc, maybe you see something.

Cheerz, nice to have you back :P

PS: the planet51 MKV did play audio before on the ps3, I asked my sun this afternoon and just like me he was sure of it. That time we only had no sub ;) lol

MKVtoolnix has MKVmerge as one of it's primary tools. So I refer to them as one in the same, sorry for confusion.

With the question about the audio stream I didn't clarify myself well. I meant onscreen of your TV when viewing PS3 feed.

You know when you press the triangle, then hit the info button. That is what I meant, and reading back, I see why I confused you.

I just want to make sure your PS3 is actually registering that there is an audio stream. Sometimes you will only see a value for the video codec.

So, again, better explained, hit triangle, then info button and see if there is an audio stream value. My theory is that this half value DTS stream is causing the file to not work. By remuxing the MKV with only the Nederlands audio, we might be able to rescue this file.
I only theorize this about the DTS because I have had this before with a similar file with the same specs.

If you notice no audio stream, THEN remux with MKVmerge as suggested without the "suspect" Eng. DTS track.

Hopefully I made it a little more clear for you.

I just wish these problems would go away. But, what can you do.
