how to connect pc to sony kdl-w5800 without ps3

Postby funkyspaceman » Fri Jul 16, 2010 8:06 am

hi,

i have previously posted this on another board but have now removed it from there cos i think i posted it on the wrong board oops, so i'm trying again in this one!

my apologies if this has already been answered, but i have searched and can't find any help!

i want to stream movies/pictures/music from my pc to my sony bravia kdl-w5800. the tv is connected to my pc with an ethernet cable via a router. i do not have a ps3, but have read that i do not need one, as ps3 media server v1.20 supports bravia tv's.

i have installed ps3ms on my pc, and when i start the program, it searches for a ps3 which it can't find due to not having a ps3, and i'm guessing that if it could find my tv, it would say that it has found it, but this doesn't happen either.

when i open up the menu on my tv, and go to video, music, or photo, there are no folders there to view so the tv can't find the pc either.

on my pc, i am using comodo internet security premium - maybe the firewall is preventing any communication between the tv and pc?

any help would be much appreciated!

thanks for any replies :)

Have a look to http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/pms#tele_freeboxneufbox
There is a section at the bottom of the page about Sony Bravia TV

If you don't read french :
    go in the pms-linux/renderers directory
    copy one of the Bravia ....conf with the name you want
    and change the beginning of the file like this (here for a KDL-37EX500)
Code: Select all
RendererName=Bravia KDL-37EX500
RendererIcon=bravia.png
UserAgentSearch=notusedhere
UserAgentAdditionalHeader=X-AV-Client-Info
UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch=BRAVIA KDL-37EX500

Hi,
I also own a BRAVIA W5800 (fw 1.7) and I understood that the best setting so far to be used with this telly is:
- PS3 Media Server v1.20.410 (http://otmanix.de/download/pms-generic- ... 20.410.tgz or http://otmanix.de/download/pms-setup-wi ... 20.410.exe)
- customized with the reworked pms.jar (http://www.box.net/shared/t65hb97h00)
- the attached configurations.

What I still am not able to do is better fix the attached configs to be able to have stutter free HD .mkv 1080p playback. And also be able to select other audio languages other than first and default one.

So any suggestion is welcome!

hi tent,

my tv has fw 1.7 and i have ps3 media server v1.20.410 installed. i have downloaded the attachments and copied them into the necessary folders. however, i can't download the reworked pms.jar file as there is nothing to download when i follow the link. it just takes me to a filesaves.com page but there is no option to save/download anything at all.
