MKV Sound out of sync!

Hello I have a MKV file and the sound is always out of sync when playing it on my PS3 with my Denon home stereo.

I attached the debug file.

I am running the latest beta 1.20.409

With MEncoder engine try

* A/V sync alternative method: If video and audio get out of sync disabling this might help.

OR

* force framerate parsed from ffmpeg: If framerate isn’t recognized correctly (video is running too fast/slow) change this setting.

With tsMuxer engine, try checking, or unchecking "force framerate parsed from FFMpeg"


If you are using either "DTS/FLAC remux" or "Keep DTS in stream" depending on what your receiver is compatible with, you could try and uncheck them and see if it helps. It is possible the increase in network traffic that both these produce causes your network traffic to spike and this can sometimes cause out of sync issues. These choices may decrease the work your CPU has to do, but increase the data traversing the network.

I also enable "HTTP Engine V2"
According to guide (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3507#p15408), it may help with network traffic.
On the other hand, if you use PMSencoder for web streaming, disabling "HTTP Engine V2" seems to decrease video population time in virtual folder as well as "wait-time" for playback.

I tried all the following and none worked.

A/V sync alternative method
unchecked "force framerate parsed from FFMpeg"
Unchecked "DTS/FLAC remux"

When playing this file on my PC the sound is in sync without any issues.

Also I redownloaded the same movie but from a different site and that one does not have any sync issues at all.

The strange thing is both files appear to be the same.

Do you see any difference betwwen this MKV and the other one in my first post?

Why would the one in my first post have a sync issue and this one does not?

I am not educated to say what is DEFINITELY the problem, but from what I have read

Re - Frame counts of 5 or higher ? can create problems with some playback. I notice the video giving you sync issues has a count of 8

Don't quote me on this as I have seen it both ways, meaning, I have had vids work with 8 re-frame count, and others not.


Video codecs are really tricky, and quite complicated.

Seeing that you are using MKV's and it seems to only be the one video, and you have tried all suggestions, you could try this:

1) try other engines

2) Download Mkv2Vob and install .............. http://www.mkv2vob.com/showthread.php?tid=1
Add the problem MKV
Start the transcode/remux

Watch the column {transcode} It will state what is being done to the video to make it into a PS3 playable file.
It will probably say (re - frames) or something like that. That answers what is giving the problem.
If you notice the progress bar moving along quite fast, just let it finish doing what it has to then you will have a PS3 compatible file when done.
Generally it doesn't take Mkv2Vob too long to do the "conversion", usually only if subs are hard coded and the video has to be completely re-encoded.

Another way is learning AviSynth scripting and maybe you can make AviSynth/MEncoder engine work for you. I have no idea how to do that, nor am I interested in doing so as the vast majority of my video media plays back fine, but searching the forums might help you with that.
