Subtitles stopped working on 1.04

Postby koichirose » Thu Feb 12, 2009 7:51 pm

I recently upgraded to 1.04 (even though 1.03 did not have any problems for me...)
Now subtitles arent working anymore.

I see the movie title and then [mencoder subtitles found], but it wont show anything. I tried with some avis + srt or mkv+srt (just 1 srt per file). On my pc (with videolan or kmplayer) everything's ok.

The only thing maybe relevant on the debug is this:
[main] TRACE 19:40:10.479 !!! It seems VSFilter.dll is not installed into the AviSynth plugins dir ! It could be troublesome for playing subtitled videos with AviSynth !!!

But I don't use avisynth (mencoder worked just fine with 1.03).

here are my settings:
Code: Select all
navigation options -> only thumbnails generation is checked
common transcoding settings:
buffer: 550mb (is that correct? I have a pretty fast computer (core2duo E8400, winxp sp3) and I'm on ethernet.)
cores: 2
audio: stereo, 384kb
no limit for video bandwidth
quality: keyint=1:vqscale=1:vqmin=2

definitely disable subtitles -> obviously unchecked, next two fields are empty

mencoder settings:
Code: Select all
multicore support and A/V sync checked, the rest is unchecked (i'm talking about the upper side)
subtitles priority-> en (even if I delete it, it will appear again. I don't think it's relevant anyway, since my files are like movie.mkv -> movie.srt)
audio priority -> empty
codepage -> 1252 (I have 1252 on my ps3)
truetype -> empty
ass/ssa -> checked (even if i dont know what it means, subtitles wont show even if I uncheck it)
fontconfig -> checked (same as previous)
ASS default style -> unchecked
ASS font settings: scale: 1.0 outline: 1 shadow: 1 margin: 15
autoload srt/sub -> obviously checked

And this is it I think... A full guide on how to enable subtitles would be really appreciated!

Thanks and congratulations for this great server :)

Are you entering the #Transcode# folder? or are you doing it from the root. Despite showing subtitles found I often had to enter the Transcode folder for it to playback with subs. Give that a shot, if you have a 1.03 installer maybe revert back to that as well.

Yes, I have mencoder by default and if I select the one from the transcode folder the result is the same.
Avisynth/mencoder won't show subtitles either, tsmuxer works only without encoding (and to have subtitles I have to encode, is that right?
avisynt/ffmpeg won't even play.

I posted the trace. Debug.log is like 4500 lines...
I have movie.avi and movie.srt.
Tried with mencoder (default) and mencoder (transcoded folder, which I believe is exactly the same, right?).
Also, both avisynth/ffmpeg and avisynth/mencoder say "data corrupted" (maybe that's the error with return code 1 in the log..)

a debug.log file excerpt, or you can zip the whole file. this file can be found in the application directory, or if you have UAC and Vista activated, likely found in the Windows temp directory

It is not debug log but only trace log;-) Debug.log is saved on your disk

Don't ask me why it does this: subfont C:\Program Files\Left 4 Dead\platform\vgui\fonts\arial.ttf :shock:
Do you need a particular line from the log?

yeah that's weird... try forcing a font in mencoder config panel (specific truetype font), go select the arial.ttf file in the windows/fonts folder

It worked :)
Why did it choose that file?
That font even existed in that directory...I still don't have a clue!
Thanks
