Newer version of mencoder

Has anyone tried newer (newer than build 30369 used in 1.20.409) version of mencoder and mencoder_mt from http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php?

I replaced mencoder and mencoder_mt with those in builds 30945 and 31024 and ps3ms could not play. I just tried a few mkv movies with x264 video. Changed mencoders back to build 30369 and they would all play fine. Did I miss any tweaks that could make the newer mencoders work with ps3ms?

The reason I was trying newer builds of mencoder was that it appeared newer version of mencoder can support, via dsnative, coreavc and other directshow filters, e.g. divx h.264 decoder, DiAVC, etc directly without avisynth. If this can work, then ps3ms's h.264/x264 playback performance could improve substantially with these more efficient H.264 decoders.

I've have been using
$ mencoder -v
MEncoder SVN-r30976-4.4.3 (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer Team
$ ffmpeg-mt git-checkout 20100330
with
PMS v1.20.409

This is on a Linux x86_64 installation without any noticeable issues, so far.

There are already many posts about these versions, dsnative, vobsub support etc....
Only one tip: new versions fails when ass subtitles are checked in PMS. When unchecked, it works ok also with latest ones.

Thanks!! I will try that tonite. Did search the forum but still felt in need of help. Could not find this tip in search So, if I uncheck ass subtitle in PMS, will it still be able to handle ass subtitle?

Thanks. I tried build 31024 and unchecked ass subtitle and it worked, partially. I used the following custom options: "-mc 0.005 -vc coreavc," mkv movies with x264 video play fine. And I could tell coreavc was loaded from the little icon at the corner. It is just that srt subtitles did not load correctly. English subtitles seem fine but Chinese subtitles were mostly underscores. Looks like the specified truetype font was not loaded. (i did specified the right codepage for Chinese).

If I go back to build 30369, check ass subtitle, and delete the custom options for mencoders, then everything works fine. It is just that h.264/x264 transcoding will be more CPU intensive.

Any clue?

MPlayer-p4-svn-31027; ass fixed, but audio really slow on some mkv (avc video aac audio)and also crash on another mkv (avc video aac audio): Most reliable for me is MPlayer-p4-svn-30815

Did I miss something? With build 31027, neither built-in subtitle in mkv nor srt subtitle is showing. I had checked both ass/ssa and autoload .srt. To me, ass was fixed just in that mencoder could run with ass/ssa checked.
