Choppy video playback help

Your framerates are totally different. The MP4 is running what looks like a PAL broadcast framerate. This may be the problem.

Question, are you in North America, or overseas. Does your TV run NTSC or PAL? I assume you are in North America.

I live in Florida. I use a software called xilisoft Video Converter to convert my vidoes. I download the shows which usually come as an .avi file. On Xilisoft I select the ps3 option and convert it to 1080p with the highest video and audio quality

I think this is the problem. The framerate. Your PS3 will be set to braoadcast to your TV, a standard North American NTSC picture.

I have no idea about Xilisoft, or how it works, as I just play .avi's straight off my PC. I'm thinking, though, that maybe the program is somehow forcing the re-encode to 29 fps. Maybe see if this is possible.

I could be wrong, but that is a big framerate difference, and the only real noticeable difference between the two examples. Are all the mp4 episodes that you have re-encoded giving you grief? If so, maybe start here.

EDIT: if the files are a lower resolution, that what you are re-encoding them to, maybe it is forcing this high framerate. Just and idea.

nope not just the episodes but some .MKV files that I did not use xilisoft with.

OK try to find a file that works, and use MediaInfo like you did before. Use that file as a reference. Then check files you know don't work, with this file. See if the framerate issue is common. If so we can try from there. If this is the case, we may need more assistance as I am fairly new to this as well.

Ok, now post a couple of the other problem files, either mp4's or mkv's. Say, one problem mp4 and one problem mkv.

This way I can see if there is common ground on framerate between them.

Also, what is original resolution on avi files, maybe re-encode up to 1080p is forcing speed up.

EDIT: 29 fps is not PAL playback. that is around 25 pfs but NTSC is about 23.9 fps. Not sure about how to fix 29 fps if it is the cause of your problems.
