Multiple Versions of VideoLan

Is it possible to install multiple version of VideoLan and have PMS use a specific version? I use VLC 1.0.5 for playing everything on my PC but PMS only supports up to 0.9.x which I don't want to go back to.

Set vlc_path in your PMS.conf e.g. (assuming Windows):

vlc_path = C:\\Program Files\\Path\\To\\vlc.exe

Sorry... Yes, running WinXP SP3 Pro.

I tried adding that line to the pms.conf file but it seems to ignore it and finds the version 1.0.5 anyways. Is there another switch needed to turn off the auto-detect?

It should be using C:\Program File\VideoLan\VLC098\VLC.exe but the trace log says its finding the other one:

You're missing a backslash before vlc.exe e.g.

Whoops! You're right - late night. But unfortunately it made no difference. Same log entries as before.

Just spent some time to get the latest versions working, but I failed. Add to this I absolutely hate VLC (don't ask why :p), I don't think I will ever work on this again

It looks like PMS checks the Windows registry before the config file. I'd raise a ticket requesting the order be changed i.e. the config file should take precendence over the registry (this would be helpful for other things, not just VLC).

Alternatively, I'd recommend using MEncoder instead.

Same problem here:

2 Versions of VLC installed, 0.9.8 for Streaming to my dreambox 800 and 1.0.5 for using with the PC.

Following Workaround works for me:

edit the registry:

(its a x64-VIsta-System):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VideoLAN\VLC

on x86 it should be similar...

Set the Installdir to the needed directory (where vlc 0.9.x is installed)
Set the Version to 0.9.8 and PMS work with this VLC.

The other VLC-Version (1.0.5) still works on the PC...
