Change in settings not doing anything

Hello, so nearly got this sorted but cannot figure it out - new to streaming so excuse me if its a dumb question but I have searched to no avail.

core 2 duo - 1.8
256 dedicated graphics
wired connection

Streaming to plasma and 5.1 surround.

I get severe stuttering unless i let the buffer build but the playback overtakes the buffer.

When I attempt to adjust the settings to 15 max band width and 'medium quality for wifi' it seems to make no difference.

I have pressed save and clicked other boxes so it registers the change.

Only way I can watch a film at the moment is 15 mins of film then 15 mins for the buffer to build up ....and repeat.

I asked it to let the buffer be upto 600 to give me more time but that also seemed to have no effect.

Currently attempting to watch Tropic thunder on 1080p and it seems to eat my buffer quickly!

What am I doing wrong?

For now try changing the process priority for the Java to high/realtime.

I have a Quad core 2.4Ghz and the probem was that one core was being used and this was not enouh.

I adjusted the priority of Java and this worked, but was a pain, so I over-clocked in the end.

Maybe one day I'll work out how all this jam's together.

Also is the problem with a VC-1 film ?

or you can enable the "enhanced multicore support" option in mencoder config panel
(if this is not a VC1 movie of course)

I have enabled the enhanced multicore support - will see it that does the trick.

Am attempting to watch .mkv files appros 8gb inn size.

I could not see how to adjust the Java priorities - how do I do this?.

I am still not sure if any of my settings changes are actually happening though - I can select everything OK but, for example, I set the max bandwidth to 14 and the vidio quality setting to 'good for hd wireless' and the buffer to 600 but the buffer seems to stay at 400 and the peak bitrate is showing as 59506kb/s

1080p is unplayable on wireless

as shagrath says, 1080p is not possible with wireless, because there's too much data to stream. with a resolution of 1920×1080, or 2,073,600 pixels, at let's say 30 fps, that's 60 M Pixels per second, even if that's 8 bits per pixel, it's too much for a 100 mega bit connection.

I'm not wireless - PS3 and laptop plugged into router just using the settings for wireless (as I thought they would make it less likely to stutter)
