it's just for playing native 96bits/24kHz FLAC files on the ps3, nothing related with a better audio quality for regular music files

Reason I ask is that I tried to play some higher resolution music, but everything is re-sampled to 16-bit/48kHz. See also my post about re-sampling here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5236. I would love to play my higher resolution FLACs through PMS natively.

yes actually everything is resampled to 44 or 48kHz (you can change this setting on the latest beta, see the TranscodeAudioTo441kHz option in the appropriate renderer conf file).

I did this to avoid any troubles with 8/11/22 kHz audio files if I remember. I could add an option but transcode could break with some files

I think it would be a valid option for those of us who want to listen to the music unaltered (esp. higher resolution music). If it can be a configuration setting then it will only affect those that set it intentionally and wouldn't break anything for others.

Happy to help. I have had a look to the source code, but wasn't sure where to get the correct bitrate/sample frequency from to pass to the audio engines (as command line parameters). Also, I couldn't find where the bitrate was set at all.
