I don't know where the debug file is for ps3mencoder (I have ps3mencoder in /usr/bin & there is no log file there)
It will not let me attach the pms debug file, but here is a few lines from the beginning.

The ps3mencoder log is in the system's temp directory i.e. /tmp/ps3mencoder.log on Linux/Unices. On Windows XP, take a look in:

Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\ps3mencoder.log

If you have Strawberry Perl installed you can find the exact location by opening a console and typing:

Code: Select all
perl -MFile::Spec -E "say File::Spec->tmpdir"

Try running ps3mencoder with no arguments, then, if that works, try running one of the commands in the ps3mencoder log.

Seems it is working for people with Perl installed. So "compiled" .exe file is not enough?
I thought when file is from few KBytes(in perl) almost 3MB big(in exe) that it will include needed perl libraries already 8-)

The PAR/PAR::Heavy error is a bug. ps3mencoder.exe should work standalone without anyone needing to install perl. I'll take a look at that. For now, though, as you say, you can install Strawberry Perl (which comes bundled with PAR) as a temporary workaround.

Thanks for getting this working.

I have one final problem. I am able to stream from the web now but....

When trying to stream a sopcast channel either in windows media player or vlc 0.9.8a using
videostream.web, TVs=Sopcast,http://127.0.0.1:8902/stream

in the web.conf
I get video but no audio.

Here are my details:
1) Dell Dimension DIM9100
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.4GHz
1.00 GB Ram
Windows XP Home Edition
PS3 Media Server V1.11.369
2) Local connection is 54Mbps wireless from PC to wireless router.
Wireless router is connected to Sony Bravia W5810 by direct ethernet connection
3) Streaming to Sony Bravia W5810. Bravia config used is:
Code: Select all
# ps3mediaserver renderer profile for Sony Bravia 5500 series
# Refer to PS3.conf for help

RendererName=Sony Bravia 5500 Series
RendererIcon=bravia.png
UserAgentSearch=notusedhere
UserAgentAdditionalHeader=X-AV-Client-Info
UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch=BRAVIA KDL.+5[0-9]{3}
Video=true
Audio=true
Image=true
SeekByTime=true
#TranscodeVideo=MPEGTSAC3
TranscodeVideo=MPEGAC3
#TranscodeAudio=PCM
TranscodeAudio=MP3
DefaultVBVBufSize=true
#MuxH264ToMpegTS=true
MuxH264ToMpegTS=false
MuxDTSToMpeg=false
WrapDTSIntoPCM=false
MuxLPCMToMpeg=false
MaxVideoBitrateMbps=0
MaxVideoWidth=0
MaxVideoHeight=0
H264Level41Limited=true
MimeTypesChanges=audio/wav=audio/L16|video/mp4=video/mpeg
#TranscodeExtensions=
TranscodeExtensions=avi,wmv,mkv,ts,m2ts,tp,iso,mp4,mov,flv,divx,mpg
StreamExtensions=
DLNAProfileChanges=MPEG_PS_PAL=MPEG_PS_NTSC|MPEG_TS_SD_EU=MPEG_TS_SD_NA|MPEG_TS_SD_EU_ISO=MPEG_TS_SD_NA_ISO

4) Use Mencoder for transcoding, in this case Mencoder Web (PS3Mencoder)
5) When trying to stream a sopcast channel either in windows media player or vlc using
videostream.web, TVs=Sopcast,http://127.0.0.1:8902/stream

in the web.conf
I get video but no audio.
6) Attached

Hope somebody can help

Well there was no log in /tmp for ps3mencoder & whereis ps3mencoder.log returns nothing.

when I ran ps3mencoder with no options or file names I get the following:

Code: Select all
lovswr@matrix1:~/pms/video/SD$ ps3mencoder
MEncoder SVN-r29237-4.4.1 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
No file given

Exiting... (error parsing command line)

when I run it with a file name I get (I don't know what options I should be trying to pass, but it does appear to be working correctly)
Code: Select all
lovswr@matrix1:~/pms/video/SD$ ps3mencoder Cloverfield.avi
MEncoder SVN-r29237-4.4.1 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

Exiting... (No output file specified, please see the -o option.)

That means ps3mencoder wasn't started successfully.

& whereis ps3mencoder.log returns nothing.

"whereis" and "which" only work with commands. Try:

Code: Select all
locate ps3mencoder.log

- for general file finding. You may need to update the db first:

Code: Select all
sudo updatedb

But don't bother in this case as a) the file doesn't exist yet, and b) when it does, it'll be in /tmp.

I don't know what options I should be trying to pass

Try this:

Code: Select all
ps3mencoder http://movies.apple.com/movies/wb/inception/inception-tlr2_h640w.mov -prefer-ipv4 -nocache -quiet -oac lavc -of lavf -lavfopts format=dvd -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:vbitrate=4096:threads=2:acodec=ac3:abitrate=128 -ofps 24000/1001 -o deleteme.mov

If it works from the command line but not from PMS, then make sure PMS has the right permissions to execute the file:

Code: Select all
chmod a+rx /path/to/ps3mencoder

Failing that, the most likely culprit is your PMS.conf...
