No Video on Bravia W5100 using Built-In DNLA

Postby cnorrick » Thu Sep 24, 2009 1:05 am

I'm running a Sony Bravia W5100 series TV connected right into my network and am running the 356 beta on an Intel iMac. The server shows up just fine on the TV and I can browse and display images and play mp3s. However when I browse my shared (and scanned) video folder each movie folder says "no items to display". I've got a wide variety of file types in there (.avi, videoTS, etc) along with some trascoded videos that are supported natively on the TV that PMS shouldn't need to transcode (tested with USB drive attached direct to TV) and none of them will show up in the browser to even attempt to play. I can see the #Transcode folder for each movie but I always get the "No Items to Display" message when I click on them.

I've asked this question within some other posts dealing with direct connections to Bravia TV's but most of those original posts were dealing with the Euro 5500 series. The 5100 is a US model equivalent and may be the cause of my trouble as one post suggested some DNLA PAL settings need to be changed to NTSC for it to work on my TV. I don't know where these setting would be.

ANY help or suggestions for a next step are appreciated. Man I really want this to work!

Success, I got my new KDL-46W5100 to see and receive transcoded movies (.avi this time). I'm using PS3 v1.11.366 which detects my TV as a Sony Bravia 5500, so I copied in C:\program Files\PS3 Media Server\renderers\Bravia5500.conf the line: DLNAProfileChanges=MPEG_PS_PAL=MPEG_PS_NTSC|MPEG_TS_SD_EU=MPEG_TS_SD_NA|MPEG_TS_SD_EU_ISO=MPEG_TS_SD_NA_ISO

and it WORKED!!!, I am very happy and send many thanks to the CREATOR !!! :-)

This is the TV model we get here in Canada, Montreal, Quebec.

I did this on XP (SP3) in Boot Camp, I own a MacBook Pro obviously ! I couldn't find the renderer folder on the MAC, if it does exist, where is it. All my videos are on the Mac files, and I'd hate to have to transfer everything in XP, which I installed in a rather small partition, who wouldn't in a Mac :-)...

Thanks again for the great works, it helps to forget about this HDCP protocol "thing", to be polite and Sony's own views of what a DLNA server should be !!!

That is great news! I hope they get the .366 out for the mac soon so I can try this. The Renderer folder on the mac is inside the application package. Right click on the app and select Show Package Contents. It will be in the Contents>Resources>Java folder. Cheers on your success! May it be repeated with me very soon!

Yes I found it in later the MAC thanks anyways, but adding the same changes does not make it works... sniff... have to wait for the CREATOR to come up with a MAC version..... have to be patient now !!!

The new beta is out (367) and my video works! You have to add the line:
Code: Select all
DLNAProfileChanges=MPEG_PS_PAL=MPEG_PS_NTSC|MPEG_TS_SD_EU=MPEG_TS_SD_NA|MPEG_TS_SD_EU_ISO=MPEG_TS_SD_NA_ISO

to the Bravia conf file for it to work. I'm still getting multiple instances of the server every time I restart the app but that is a small price to pay for working video. The firewall issue is also fixed in Snow leopard. All is working! :D :mrgreen: :D

guys,

Thanks for your posts. I am having the same problem with Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR9. I can see all photos and play music but cannot see any video file. I am using PS3 Media Server v1.11.369.

In this post it has been suggested to modify C:\program Files\PS3 Media Server\renderers\Bravia5500.conf file for KDL-46W5100 model. I wanted to know which .conf file I should modify for KDL-40XBR9 model? I could not find any .conf file for KDL-40XBR9.

Any help on this will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention that I have following two .conf files for Bravia under C:\Program Files\PS3 Media Server\renderers folder:

Bravia4500.conf
Bravia5500.conf

I modified both the above files by adding the following line at the end of files, but still I face the same issue.

DLNAProfileChanges=MPEG_PS_PAL=MPEG_PS_NTSC|MPEG_TS_SD_EU=MPEG_TS_SD_NA|MPEG_TS_SD_EU_ISO=MPEG_TS_SD_NA_ISO

When I browse to PS3 media server from my TV (KDL-40XBR9) bought in USA, I see a #--transcode--# folder and inside it I see one folder for each video, but when I click on any folder for video, I get the message "There are no items to display".

Also I noticed that in PS3 Media Server Trace, following entries are logged:

[New I/O server worker #1-2] TRACE 23:29:46.057 Media renderer was not recognized. HTTP User agent :UPnP/1.0
[New I/O server worker #1-1] TRACE 23:29:46.073 Media renderer was not recognized. HTTP User agent :UPnP/1.0
[New I/O server worker #1-2] TRACE 23:29:46.104 Media renderer was not recognized. HTTP User agent :UPnP/1.0
[New I/O server worker #1-1] TRACE 23:29:46.260 Media renderer was not recognized. HTTP User agent :UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.50
[New I/O server worker #1-2] TRACE 23:29:46.463 Media renderer was not recognized. HTTP User agent :UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.50

Any help will be highly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if the 5100 series tvs function the same as your XBR. However, if your pics and mp3s are working that is a good sign. Attached is my working 5100 Renderer file just in case you want to try it out.

Bravia 5100 renderer configuration file on MediaFire: http://www.mediafire.com/file/gmmjkjztm ... a5100.conf
