MP3 Streaming problems wth PS3

Postby Lazer » Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:04 am

Hello,
first of all sorry for my poor english :)
I use PMS .366 with Windows7 and a PS3 Slim linked with a Cat6 ethernet cable.
I can stream every content without problem (divx, mkv, images...).
I can even stream audio files like m4a.
The only problem i have is on MP3 (any bitrates), when i play a MP3, i have micro cuts, generally the first on is at 43 seconds and after the sound cuts randomly (cuts are during approximatively half second).
When i play the MP3 from the hard drive of the PS3 there is no cuts...
I try everything, change the cable, the routeur (linksys wrt320n), the version of PMS... Nothing solve the problem.

Do you know this issue ?

Think you very much for your help ! :)

I was having the same problem. The audio would cut out for the first time at the following time codes :43, 1:05 or 1:26. I didn't log the times for the second and subsequent drop-outs. The exact same thing happened with TVersity, and at the same time intervals. I did note that this issue did not occur when I used my Sony Bravia LCD to play the streams. Movies and pictures worked fine.

The only conclusion that I could come to was that it was something with the PS3. It was the only common denominator. I first tried setting the PS3 to factory defaults...No luck. I then tried a quick format...Strike two. Finally, I did a 3 hour, full format of my PS3's hard drive. This did the trick. I don't know why.

Not knowing how something was fixed is not acceptable to me. :D I have to know why. But, it looks like that is not to be. Hopefully, you will not have to go through such drastic measures to clear up your problem.

P.S. I forgot to mention...I do keep regular backups of my hard drive. Even though the snapshot I took of the PS was at a time that my music worked, restoring the backup did NOT solve the problem. I really want to know what caused this!!

Regards...Will

I have a simial problem wirth the sound. I am a huge anime fan and I'm usually playing Anime Music Videos. Most of these are mkv and the fans use a mp3 behind the movie to go with it. The movie and everything plays fine but the sound is awefull. It stutters and has set backs. I'm not quite sure how to describe this. What I reconized is most people with this problem are using windows 7, so am I. Maybe it has anything to do with it. Unfortunately I have tried pretty much every setup there is for PS3 Media server. The PS3 itself is working perfectly. Because when I watch like a musical like Sister Act for example my sound is perfect. It just happens in the music videos, probably because of the mp3.

Any news on this subject yet?

Unfortunately, I am using XP SP4, not Windows 7. I am certain that it has something to do with the PS3. I just have not been able to figure out what the problem is yet...Will

Will,

I did what you said and now EVERYTHING works GREAT!

I have spent hours trying to figure this out.

Last night Installed several different media server software all with the same problem with MP3's so tonight I formated and restored the PS3 and everything is working like it used to. The problem was not with PS3 Media Server it was with my Sony PS3.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

Hey all,

I too am having the same issue with MP3 streaming!

So what I wanted to know was did the format fix the issue? (Before I go ahead and do this for myself)....

Cheers

BTW - my setup is XP 64 Pro. But I also tried this with XP 32 Pro and I had the same issue in both.

Damn,
my diagostic was the same : PS3 must be the problem.
What option did you use to format the PS3 ?
Did you restore a backup AFTER format the PS3 ?
Finally do you know a way to backup saved game like NFS Shift ? (i can't copy the files).

Think you very much for your help,

I noticed this happened on my PS3 when I was streaming MP3s. I noticed it started with the last firmware update. With the last firmware update, audio upsampling was enabled for audio files. I found if you turn this feature off in the XMB, the stuttering goes away.

Here is the PS3 manual with how to turn the upsampling off...

Hope this helps!
