I have the same configuration:

iMac 2,4 Intel Core Duo
Mac Os 10,6,1
PS3 firmware 3,1
Airpport extreme

Media Server can't find the ps3, searching for media server on the PS3 give's no results.
However, in the log file of MediaServer, ist saying that he is live transmitting?!

Redlum wrote:Seems there are a lot of questions about this, so try this first before you post.

- Try forcing your IP address or network interface in the settings (this is the number 1 fix).
- Make sure there is no firewall or something else blocking the connection.
- Disable any other media server you have running (like Medialink).
- Make sure that you can ping your PS3, if not then it's probably an issue in your network.

If you still have problems after this then post in this thread and we will try to help you fix it. Make sure to include a detailed description of the issue and what you already tried.

Hello! I could sure use some help. I recently purchased a PS3 slim and having problems getting the PS3 Media Server to find and connect to the PS3 unit. I have tried all the above steps, and other Users suggested steps and no luck. Please help!!

I am using a MAC OS Intel V10.5.8
Linksys WRT300N router

Any suggestions is really appreciated because I really hate using a USB drive to move media files to the PS3 to view them on a larger screen and comfortable couch. Thanks in advance for your help! Dave

I just want to say Thanks Redlum for all your hard work and support with PS3 Media Server. I know you are putting lots of efforts toward Leopard as well. I realized that I I needed to force the IP address of the computer (iMac) versus the IP address of the PS3 console, my very bad.

For others who are like me and new to MAC OSX:
1) Determine the IP address of the computer that you will run PS3 Media Server. Open a terminal window so that you can type commands that are not on a menu. If you already have a terminal window open, skip to Step 5. Otherwise, click on the desktop background (not on any application). The top menu bar should now say "Finder"; click on Go -> applications
On the applications menu, click on Utilities to open the set of commands that are on the Utilties submenu.
Under the Utilities folder, click on Terminal. In the terminal window, type "ifconfig" then hit return.
In the output, there will be lines that include inet x.x.x.x netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast a.b.c.d
The IP address of the interface is the four numbers denoted by x.x.x.x in the lines described above.
There may be a line that says inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 This is the loopback interface, and always uses the IP address 127.0.0.1.
2) Find Network Utility. The IP address will also be displayed under the Info tab here as well. If the computer is connected by ethernet (en0) or you can confirm the address here.
3) Like Redlum stated force this IP address along with the correct Network Interface on the General Configuration Tab of the Java PS3 Media Server (PMS)
4) Save and Quit
5) Relaunch PMS. Your PS3 should be found immediately!

BTW, I also configured the PS3 to a static IP address. Added port forwarding with this IP address on the wireless router, and have the firewall setting to allow all incoming connections!

Now all I need to figure out is which directories are the pictures, videos, music are kept on a MAC.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on how they are using PMS?

regards, daveinsf

I think its important to note then when forcing IP - you are forcing your Mac's IP.

Forcing the Mac's IP address but not the network interface, then turning the OSX firewall off worked for me. Turn the firewall back on once PS3 has been found and hit OK in the dialogue box to allow the app to accept incoming connections. Perfect!!

...or enable 32bit mode and Rosetta for the Media Server, then you can use the Media Server when firewall is turned on always. I do use this "workaround" until there's a fully compatible Media Server with Snow Leopard released.

What about having the PS3 hardwired to the wireless router? I have a WRT610n and it's connected wirelessly to my macbook. Could I connect this way? None of the settings I have tried have worked so far.
Before buying the new router I never had problems finding my PS3 wirelessly (before buying the WRT610n I had my laptop hardwired to the router and the PS3 connected wirelessly). Thanks for the help in advance.

Hey Guys. I have just brought myself to the world of PS3 Media Server ! However, I am having no luck finding my PS3 !!

Here are the details:
-ps3 connected via wireless (95 % signal strength) on a static ip address
-dlink router has upnp enabled
-dlink router has portwarding enabled to port 6001
-in General Configuration, i have set the networking on interface to my nic card
-i have also set the force port of the server to 6001
-i have also set the IP filter to the IP of the PS3
-i have allowed windows firewall to allow PMS for connectivity

BUT NO LUCK!

I keep getting the "PS3 has not been found" error
I also went to the PS3 and searched for Media server, to no avail

Please, Please help!

Hi,

I recently switched to OSX and also encountered the same problem, but for me the following is working:

Force IP address. First turn on the PS3 and then run PMS.

I've noticed when I close (exit) PMS and then start it again, it won't find the PS3.

Hope this helps.
