Movie playback stops after 20 mins on Samsung TV

Postby msurg » Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:36 pm

Hello all,

First I tried on Linux, but then I tried on Windows and got the same result. This is because I post it again to General Support section.

Trying to watch movies on Samsung LE-40B750 from PS3MS on Linux

These are my information according to "Before reporting a problem" post:

1. Pentium4 3 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, Fedora9 installed on it. (Tried on both Windows XP and Vista either)
2. Network: Ethernet 100 Mbit
3. When I try to watch movies on Samsung TV movie playback stops after almost always around 20 mins and starts to play the next movie (again 20 mins)
4. I am using mencoder for transcoding as I need subtitles for movie.
5. Debug.log is attached.
6. Media Renderer is Samsung LE-40B750 LCD TV.

PS: MediaTomb works as expected.

PMS.conf
Code: Select all

mencoder_ass = false

mencoder_subfribidi = false
mencoder_noass_scale = 4
mencoder_ass_scale = 0.25
maxvideobuffer = 384
audiobitrate = 384
usecache=true
mencoder_mux_compatible = true
network_interface = eth0
use_mplayer_for_video_thumbs = true

Samsung.conf
Code: Select all
# ps3mediaserver renderer profile for Samsung Wiselink
# Refer to PS3.conf for help

RendererName=Samsung Wiselink
RendererIcon=bravia.png
UserAgentSearch=wiselink
Video=true
Audio=true

Any help will be appreciated cause PS3MS is far better than MT.

Kind Regards...

I found a way to stream mkv's to the sammy tv, explained here http://ps3mediaserver.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2806&p=13424&hilit=+samsung#p13424

But now, only on transcoded materials, i experiencing the same behavior that you experienced. What i noticed is that in this case, the cursor indicating the current time in the movie (press info) is left to 00:00.

Perhaps Shagrath have an idea of a potential solution.

PS: the time cursor works with streamed avi or mkvs.

no relevant informations in the log, the network connection is just interrupted

[New I/O server worker #1-1] DEBUG 18:10:47.934 future: isSuccess() = false

hard to debunk this one, maybe you can try to disable the 'HTTP engine V2', in general configuration tab

Me experience with my Samsung TV (LN52A750R) has been crap as a media renderer.. at least with HD content. Playback stutters horribly. I guess thats not helpful though :cry:

Perhaps a capture with Wireshark could help reveal where the problem is coming from. I had used it to report an issue with TVersity almost a year ago--I don't think they ever fixed it. Oh well, I'm much happier with my PS3.

Did one more test for Shagrath.
1 - I stream a tv serie who stopped after 20 minutes.
2 - Took the mencoder command line in debug.log.
3 - Transcode the serie into a file instead of pipe.
4 - Stream the generated file to Sammy.

In this case, the serie does not stop after 20 min, the time cursor change according to the place in the movie.

So what is the difference in terms of streaming between transcoded file and real time transcoded file ?

weird, I hope this is isn't due to a transcode buffer bug (again). In the last seconds, the buffer seems to stop being read by the renderer.

[Timer-8] DEBUG 18:10:43.280 Buffered Space: 400666624 bytes / inputs: 1
[Timer-8] DEBUG 18:10:45.280 Buffered Space: 400666624 bytes / inputs: 1
[Timer-8] DEBUG 18:10:47.280 Buffered Space: 400666624 bytes / inputs: 1

I cannot say if this is the renderer stopping the network stream for an unknown reason (doubtful), or a bug in the buffer, but I guess somebody else would have met it before

I don't know, but i think that the renderer stop reading. Like i said, it's like the TV does not realize it receive data. And after a while, stops like a timeout.

I don't know the DLNA protocol. Does it start to send the total bytes or total duration or both, then send movie packets, etc.
Are there fakes info you tell to the receiver as total size ?
