sub titles when playing avi files from media server

Postby oledad » Sat Jul 04, 2009 11:03 pm

Is there a way to play the srt (sub title) file with the avi file from the media server. I can play them fine using Video lan media player on my computer but not when using the TVersity media server and the PS3.

I don't know TVersity, but in PMS you can do so by using AviSynth/FFMpeg. Just enable the subtitle option on FFMpeg video decoder option and you are good to go.

Avisynth/ffmpeg is less recommended then other profiles. The best one if possible is to use MEncoder only ;)
Yes, mencoder supports SRT subtitles without any problems

I didn't know that ... but for me AviSynth/FFMpeg works best.

Hi all,

I am using PMS 1.04 (MEncoder) under XP and I just can't seem to get the ".srt" subtitles to work. On my PC it works fine, but on my TV they just don't appear.

Of course the box "auto load files srt/sub/ass is ticked, and both the video and the srt file have the same name and are in the same folder. It's a simple avi (xvid/lame mp3) and an srt. In the name of the file on my TV it reads "subtitle found"... I have also been in the "transcode" folder and tried all three "alternatives" but none works except MEncoder (probably just a configuration issue but I am really not in a mood to try and figure out the settings).

Thanks in advance for any help.

thanks bahamot I setup PMS instead of TVersity ad the subs work fine. avi file loads much slower than with TVersity but I'm in no hurry.
