1- your computer specs (cpu, memory) and the precise server version you're using
q6600 2,4ghz, 4gb 1ghz ram.
v1.10.51 of the ps3 media server program.
2- the network connection you are using for streaming your files (wifi, homeplugs, ethernet 100Mbits, or gigabit)
I think its called homeplugs, the electrical thingies you plug in and it works as a ethernet cable.
this is where the problem is probably, i'm using devolo DLan something something 80mbps version, its currently showing that I have a 65mbps signal to the ps3 (it varies from lowest 50 to 65, its steady though... only seen the 50 once).
I don't use a router in between, its my PC -> homeplugs about 20-40m cant remember -> ps3. I share the internet from my PC and the pc connects wireless to the router (large house, only one router and it doesnt reach the ps3).
3- detailed infos on what's not working
my computer can transcode everything I've tried FLAWLESSLY, buffer is full at all times. the video hiccups A LOT on HD movies (720p).
I've also seen that it really depends on the file I'm trying, some files have a lot more bit rate than others, planet earth (bbc shows, very beautiful) work very well but in complex scenes with like a lot of birds flickering about or heavy snow it hiccups, I've also seen that this happens when the bit rate goes over 10-15mbps (info when playing (select)). when I play planet earth shows it says in the menu that its mpeg-2 but when I play it the codec up in the right corner shows "AVC", when I play james bond - dr no, it says mpeg-2 in the corner and the bit rate is super high, even though the ps3 server program says it peaks at 30mbps it shows up to 120mbps or something ridiculous while hiccuping.
when I look at the task manager and see how much its actually pumping out its shockingly low, I must be reading it wrong but im seeing 1-2mbps, I serously doubt that and I think its more like 10-20mbps, but really around 10 most of the time.
4- if you're transcoding some videos, which engine are you using ? (mencoder, avisynth/mencoder, tsmuxer)
5- a debug.log file excerpt, or you can zip the whole file. this file can be found in the application directory, or if you have UAC and Vista activated, likely found in the Windows temp directory
6- if you are streaming to anything other than a PS3, please mention it
thanks in advance.
