PS3MS really sloooow to browse folders?

Postby MikeAndSal » Tue Jun 09, 2009 6:33 pm

Is it only me, or does anyone else have issues where the PS3MS is really slow when browsing folders? Even a folder with only 20 files in it takes a long time to appear, usually the first ten appear after 10 seconds or so and then the next ten appear after a few more seconds.

Playing music is also really slow, takes up to a minute to load and play an MP3 file.

Gone back to TVersity at the moment since the PS3MS is so unresponsive as to be unusable.

Any tips for speeding it up? (BTW: TVeristy does not suffer from this performance issue.)

For the browsing slowness, enable the Media Library. Not sure why your MP3's are taking awhile... What kind of network do you have?
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

/me laughs are the underhanded references to TVersity.

That software (at this point) is a monstrosity. Even with the one problem I have with PS3MS, it is still better in almost every single possible way, even for non-PS3 DLNA clients, than that clunky, junky software who's devs currently appear to be more interested in banking in than making a compelling product.

Network is wired between the PS3 and the PC, via a router of course.

I've enabled the media library but that doesn't seem to make any difference to the speed.

It's not an underhand reference at all. Like most people I suspect, we are all looking for a good alternative to TVeristy. I merely mentioned the fact that, in comparision, TVeristy browses files a lot faster, so much so that I PS3MS is frustratingly slow.

If it's any help, here's the debug log when I navigate to my music folder, open the first album and try to play the first song. Entire operation took over a minute to browse and play.

Re: PS2MS really sloooow to browse folders?

Sorry, forgot to say that the first time you're browsing through it will be slow as it's developing the parsing database, but after that it should be much faster.
MikeAndSal wrote:If it's any help, here's the debug log when I navigate to my music folder, open the first album and try to play the first song. Entire operation took over a minute to browse and play.
How long does it take to actually start playing the song AFTER you select it to play?
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

seems there's a weird problem in the parsing or whatever, and you are reaching the 20 seconds timeout for every request, hence the slow responses
please try the latest beta, without the media library enabled and repost the same log output

In the log above it takes ~ 20 secs before the PS3 starts to play the file. Pretty representative of the time it takes for most songs.

And, its not just MP3 files. Pictures and videos suffer from the same issue.

Will do shagrath, but won't be able to start that until later tonight UK time.

How I get hold of the latest beta, short of downloading the latest code and re-compiling?

Will get back to you later.

Cheers
