Dock Icon and Server Name

Postby nutella69 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:36 am

Hi

First of all, thanks for this great app! However I've two questions:

1. I'm wondering if it's possible to hide the dock icon? We have now the menubar icon ;)

2. It's possible to change the Server Name? Because on my Samsung TV the Source Name: PS3 Media Server [macbook.local] it's a bit too long.

Thanks & Cheers

1. I've looked at this but I don't think it's possible. It's a 'limitation' in OS X, only prefpane apps seem to be able to live without a dock icon.
2. No, that's not possible for now.

nutella, there is a way to edit the contents of an application's info.plist to tell OS X to hide the app on the dock. The process is outlined here.

But even easier, there is app that automates the process: http://foggynoggin.com/dockdodger

I tried it on PMS, and it worked perfectly.

Hello,

Thanks for the Dock Dodger tip!

I have a new install of the Mac beta and I don't get a menu icon. What should I check?

Thank you,

-Doc

I know it's possible for non-prefpane apps to do this; sabnzbd+ for os x doesn't have a dock icon, only a menubar icon and it's not a prefpane app. This is a relatively new feature as well (within the past few betas, the current stable version doesn't do this).
