1080p mkv latest build, stuttering brand new imac

I've been using medialink for most files since I got my ps3, but as you know mkv never worked. I than mkv2vob for xp, and than tsmuxer for mac, and finally now ps3media. It's been a long time coming for getting mkv properly so I thank the devs and everyone out there for this. Now on to my problem.

I'm having problems streaming 1080p mkv files, i experience stuttering. I am on a wired connection and using brand new imac with leopard, not snow leopard. I have my screens configured as followed

I've tried different settings at limiting bw to 400, turning off switching to ts, etc..

Please advise, if there is any other info needed do ask

Are u on a 100mbit wired lan ?


I had a similar problem on a 100mbit wired lan, got stuttering (not always tho, but on intense scenes) i upgraded to 1gbit lan instead.. small cost, huge benefit

yes my router is a wrt54gl linksys which is 100mbit

If u check the move info while you get stuttering, you'll notice that you are using more bandwith then u have 110mbit etc.. Triangle and i+ icon.. have that open while u play moviefile, if u cross over 100mbit.. there is your problem for stuttering, movie needs more bw plain and simple.. Or just downscale content to 720p. (or upgrade to gbit lan)

I will try that next time. My guess is it is going over the bw, since it does look so much better than 720 i would perfer not to scale it, but is there a way to do that with this program on the go? I mean i could just get the file in 720 but for the 1080 files i have now..

Also, is upgrading to a 1gb lan as easy as buying a new router? i looked briefly and some recommend just getting a 1gb switch, what did you do?

I had to buy a new router that supported gbit, i got a d-link dir-655 router..It's very nice i think. And i had to re-cable to my puter just a new 4 meter CAT 5e cable. My regular CAT 5 didn't take gbit..

So i basicly got a new router + 4 meters of cable.. and i had gbit lan. You need to check if u lan card has 10/100/1000 tho, or u might need to get a new lan card too, but that's damn cheap anyway(at least for pc)

I'll most likely buy a switch, but i'm still doing research on the router. There is nothing else I can try to do to get this working currently? I just want to make sure all options are exhausted before buying something.

I'm not that into tweaking the pms, but i'm sure someone else is.. i think u need to post some screens from the setup or something then not sure .. Either way, gbit lan is a good upgrade anyway.

FWIW, "keyint=3:vqscale=2:vqmin=3" is actually incorrect?

Shouldn't the value of vqmin be less than the value of vqscale?

Also, when you playback a supported PS3 format (such as mp4, AVI) you can check your maximum data rates in Activity Monitor using the Network graph.
