Experiences with Samsung and Sony TVs?

Hi,

I am considering buying a Samsung or Sony LCD TV. Both have networking in one way or another (Medi@ 2.0, DNLA).
I'd like to connect my MacBook, does anyone know if I should prefer Samsung or Sony?
Any experiences?

Hi,
what I'd like to do is stream video and sound from the MacBook to the TV. For example play a DVD on the Mac and watch it on the TV.
Or get IP TV on the Mac and stream it to the TV.

Ok, well when I get a spare moment, I'll see if this is possible with my Samsung A650. I wasn't aware that the TV could decode any media formats (It might not be able to). If it is able to, I'd imagine it'll be a mess--with only support for a very very limited set of codecs--but who knows!

I take it you do not have a PS3? (If you do,I can tell you already that using the PS3 as the DNLA client would be far better).

No, I don't have a PS3. I just saw the possibility to connect Mac-TV over network (and thus wirelessly, at least from the Mac to the router)

Barnum, alas I found out my particular model doesn't have DLNA like I thought it did (never noticed after a year of ownership since I use my PS3 for streaming.) Apparently the model up from mine did:

Differences between the LNxxA650 and LNxxA750:
750 has an integrated woofer
16-bit processor vs. 12-bit in 650 (10-bit panel in both)
750 has DLNA features (can stream audio/video/etc. over a home network)
750 can play video off of DLNA/USB flash drive. 650 limited to images/audio
750 comes with 1GB internal flash memory pre-loaded with HD pictures, games, recipes, and a few other things
750's controls on the bezel have a red backlight. 650's controls have no backlight
750 has a square bezel compared to the 650's rounded bezel
750 has a square stand compared to the 650's oval stand
750 stand does not swivel (contrary to Samsung's literature)

Just wanted to report: I bought a Sony W5500, and connected it to the network. I downloaded PS3 Media Server, and it was really easy to get working on my MacBook Pro
I managed to view images (.jpg) and videos (.mov) from my MacBook Pro. I wasn't very impressed by the quality, especially the video, but I only tried it shortly. Will try more!

I'd assume any poor video quality is because of a small source being scaled. Have you tried a 720p or 1080p clip?
