iTunes and PMS Playlists

I've been using PMS for a few days now, and so far I've been very pleased with it - it performs so much better than some pay-for apps I could mention. I have a query that I hope someone could shed some light on. I've browsed the board for some days now and I can't find the answer I'm looking for, so I hope you can help!

Firstly; my spec. I'm running an 8 core Mac Pro, with 10.5.7. Version 1.10.5 of the PMS software, to a PS3 with the latest software updates. All is connected via Ethernet (not wireless). I can stream HD video no problem, I can add my iTunes Music folder and have that display on the PS3, as well as the iPhoto libraries.
What I want to do however is use the PMS Media Library function for both music and photos.

I add my 'iTunes Music' folder to the shared folder. On the PS3, I can browse the folder ok, but I would like this information to appear in the #.Media Library.# folder on the PS3. At the moment I get 'There are no tracks".
I presumed I could add the iTunes folder to the list of shared folders, then click the scan button for the software to catalogue my mp3s. So far, it has been scanning in excess of 24 hours solid, and is currently up to 'C', and is plodding along very slowly. Is this the correct way of going about it? I have tried assigning an XML, or M3U or PLS files, but I can't seem to get those to work either. I have a library of around 19000 songs, but I felt I could type the playlist faster than the scan is doing it!

Am I somehow,quickly, able to do what I'm trying to do? Have I missed something? And does the same apply for my iPhoto library?

I have tried the new Mac Beta, and my PS3 fails to see the PSM software, and the PSM locks up after clicking 'Restart HTTP Server', so the Beta isn't doing me any favours right now!

Great software - I'm very impressed so far; if I can get the playlist stuff fathomed, it's about to replace my MacMini to TV set up!

The latest beta includes support for iTunes and iPhoto libraries, that's what you should be using. If you enable these options with a huge library (as yours) it can take longer before the PS3 will find the server, have you waited long enough? You should not use the media library for this.

Hello - thanks for the info! I've given the Beta another go, set it up, saved my settings and clicked the 'Restart HTTP server'. I've put the PS3 on and waited about 3 hours - nothing appears on the PS3, and the HTTP button never greys out - yet the rest of the app remains functional. Unfortunately, after quitting the app and restarting, PMS hangs while 'Registering transcoding engine Raws Thumbnailer', and then ultimately wants to quit while giving a 'Cannot launch Java application : Uncaught exception in main method: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space'. I can normally avoid this by deleting it's preferences.
I appreciate the app is only in Beta - so I'm happy to hang on until a more official release! But if you can offer any more advice, it would be gratefully received!

The initial scanning, if you enable iTunes library support, seems to take 1 minute per 5000 songs on my 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo
So on your setup, it should be fairly quick processing the 19000 songs.

Must be some other problem.

Can you post a debug?

I think I've made a bit of progress now. Alongside my Mac Pro, I also had a Mac Mini connected directly to my TV acting as my media server. It had Elgato's EyeConnect running, and after disabling that on the Mac Mini, I could see the PMS Beta running from my Mac Pro.

However, I am now back to the Out Of Memory Java error whenever I start PMS (more specifically, when I save the settings and restart the app), neither does 'restarting the http' connection ever seem to refresh. My debug log can be found here if it helps:

Hi

I have just set up the PMS Beta, ticked all the boxes I needed (and pretty much left all the transcoding features as-is), but I HAVEN'T activated the iTunes support. I have saved my config, and restarted the app without any problems. The PS3 sees the iPhoto library, Movies folder and plays the web content fine.

But, when I check the iTunes box, and restart, it's at that point I get the Out of Memory Java Stack Heap error. Is there anywhere in the Package Contents I can amend the iTunes set-up?

i concur with the previous posts. i have every option enabled, but when i select itunes i throw a java heap error like the one above. i have nearly 30k songs and while my itunes xml files resides locally, my songs reside on a nas device.
