PMS 1.80.0 Won't Connect After Java Update OSX 10.6

Postby mystik3eb » Wed Apr 17, 2013 5:13 am

I just updated Java tonight on my Snow Leopard iMac, and now the PMS won't connect to any address, whether I force it to use my iMac's IP or not. I'm GUESSING it's because of the Java update, because it was working fine until right after I updated Java.

Here's the exact name of what I updated tonight:

Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 15 -- Version 15.0

This was updated through OSX's Software Updater, nothing weird.

I had exactly the same problem this morning on Lion. The log was showing java exceptions when trying to connect to my PS3. If you're able to find a solution, please post it.

I have the same problem after the OS X update and Java 7 Update 21.
I'm using Mountain Lion.

This error message keeps looping under "Traces". PMS never finds my TV (Panasonic) or PS3.
It worked fine previously with Java 7 Update 17.

If I restart the PMS server this error message disappears, but PMS is not able to discover any devices still (and the devices cannot discover PMS):

Same issue here. Updated Java on 4/16 through Software Update, now PMS cannot detect any renderers. I've done everything in the other support sections regarding the errors in the debug log...nothing works. Disabled firewall, rebooted modem and router, pinged the PS3 from Mac successfully, forced networking on interface in PMS settings, tried port forwarding...all to no avail. Here is my debug log, someone please fix!

Edit: This dos not appear to be specific to OSX 10.6, as I am running OSX 10.8.3 on my machine.

Same issue here; 2.93 Ghz Intel Core i7 w. OSX 10.8.3. After Java-update from appstore, PMS stopped working with the same error messages as posted in this thread. Both v 1.71.0 and 1.80.0 failed, be it with different error messages.

When I restored the contents of /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines with the contents found in my latest TimeMachine backup from before the update, PMS works like a charm again.

Something in the latest Java update does break the PS3 mediaserver.

When I restored the contents of /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines with the contents found in my latest TimeMachine backup from before the update, PMS works like a charm again.

Something in the latest Java update does break the PS3 mediaserver.

Had the same issue and figured it was the Java update that broke it. Tried loads of things to no avail and then thankfully came across your post. Restoring the JavaVirtualMachines from my Time Machine backup fixed PSM. Thanks DirkP :)

Edit: I have a Retina MacBook Pro 2.3GHz/8GB/256GB running 10.8.3

Re: PMS 1.80.0 Won't Connect After Java Update OSX 10.6

Strange thing is that I don't get the error when running PMS in Eclipse, but when I package and install the .dmg the errors start appearing.

Also, I don't see why the requested address cannot be assigned. The javadoc doesn't explain what the code does wrong.
I googled for an answer, but nothing useful so far. :(
