PMS on OSX recognizes PS3, but PS3 won't detect mediaserver

Postby iamkalive » Fri Feb 08, 2013 7:05 am

So, I have had troubles before on and off, and eventually the PS3 would recognize my MacBook to access movies and audio. It worked great for months. I have macbook and PS3 both hardwired to my router (this is a DSL modem/wifi router all in one).

I recently moved (same building, same hardware, just relocated and had to have services transfered to new suite).
Now, my PS3 won't recognize my OSX mediaserver. The PMS software on my OSX recognizes PS3, although it took a couple of restarts of the software.

Funny thing, when I first moved down here, prior to my services being transfered, I was using an unsecured wireless network, and the PMS was working fine with the PS3, it was just super slow due to distance from the router. The problem just restarted when I tried reconnecting to my service that was recently moved over.

According to the log ( below), it seems like it should all be working. I see the PS3 on my PMS software. I just can not see my macbook on my PS3.

I will check when I get home after work.

A couple of more points I would like to mention:
1- Last night I was able to see 2 WMP mediaservers that were visible on my PS3. They were obviously from a neighbor and on wireless, so I knew that my PS3 was working from a mediaserver perspective.

2- this morning, I restarted my router/modem and I noticed my newer silver Macbook was recognized by the PS3 and I was able to stream from it. But my older white Macbook(where the issue is occurring) still isn't recognized on the PS3.

Another thing I noticed was that, last night I was able to remotely log-in and access my older white macbook via my newer silver Macbook, but this morning I can not. The older white Macbook does not appear at all as a connectable device anymore. So i am assuming it is some setting on my older white macbook is conflicting somewhere with the router/wifi or something. But, the older white macbook still recognizes the PS3 when running PSM.

There was a never a problem like this when I was in my old place. I had 3 different mediaservers recognized and working on my PS3 (1x Windows, 2x OSX).

solved!
1-re-configured the internet settings and re-connected via "wired connection" and let setup do its thing.
2- reset configs on PSM on old white macbook.
3- reset old white macbook.
4- system shutdown PS3 (from rear), then restarted. New silver macbook and toshiba laptop appear under videos
5- Started PSM on old white macbook...pops up on PS3

Brilliant!
