1080p content via macbook

Hi, I'm currently using the PS3 Media Server to play 1080p video content over a gigabit network under windows with a C2D E8400 / 4GB RAM, which works flawless. But I'm planning now to replace this system with a Macbook 2,4 GHz 2GB Ram 128GB SSD. Due to the low HD capacity I have to store my whole content on a external drive over USB. What do you think, is it possible to achieve such a high bandwidth with this system to play 1080p content without stuttering?

I use usb drive on my base station router I have a 24"imac 2.8ghz i have no problesm
so it has to grab files from usb drive on base station come to my mac then goes out to ps3 not stutter at all use more bandwith that way but it still works this is with gigabit network
