1.50.0 Issues on Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.7.2

Postby jedicaveman » Mon Nov 21, 2011 11:51 pm

Ever since I installed 1.50.0, I'm getting this repeated message in the server log:

[Thread-12] ERROR 14:40:15.090 UPNP network exception
java.net.BindException: Address already in use
at java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.bind0(Native Method) ~[na:1.6.0_29]
at java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.bind(PlainDatagramSocketImpl.java:91) ~[na:1.6.0_29]
at java.net.DatagramSocket.bind(DatagramSocket.java:372) ~[na:1.6.0_29]
at java.net.MulticastSocket.bind(MulticastSocket.java:162) ~[na:1.6.0_29]
at java.net.MulticastSocket.<init>(MulticastSocket.java:147) ~[na:1.6.0_29]

at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:680) [na:1.6.0_29]

It just keeps looping. It never stops.

Most-likely a stray process is still running or you forced something you shouldn't have.
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

What do you mean? I have not "forced" anything. I have restarted and even trashed my config file. No matter what I do, I get this looping over and over again in the traces window:

[Thread-12] ERROR 12:39:33.262 UPNP network exception
java.net.BindException: Address already in use
at java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.bind0(Native Method) ~[na:1.6.0_29]

According to the FAQ, you should check if there are hanging processes.
Open a Terminal and run this command to see relevant processes:
Code: Select all
ps auxwww | grep PS3

The only process you should see is "grep PS3".
If you see others, kill all of them by picking the number in front of them and run a command like:
Code: Select all
kill -9 12345

Then restart PMS and see if the error still occurs.

There are only two processes running when I enter that command:

jason 71796 0.2 0.0 2435492 348 s000 U+ 1:32PM 0:00.00 grep PS3
jason 71780 0.0 0.8 3957396 95568 ?? S 1:32PM 0:04.66 /Applications/PS3 Media Server.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub -psn_0_5846419

I did kill -9 71780 and PS3MS seems to be fine. Its not looping that error any more. So... do I have to do this every time I want to run PS3MS?

No, PMS should normally quit properly on its own.
Sometimes it fails to kill all subprocesses though. Only then do you need to check and do this.

This stray process keeps coming back. The above terminal commands no longer fix the problem. In fact, running the command kills the app.

jason 653 2.1 0.9 3994820 106800 ?? S 7:32PM 0:06.92 /Applications/PS3 Media Server.app/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub -psn_0_208947
jason 753 0.0 0.0 2434892 480 s000 R+ 7:34PM 0:00.00 grep PS3
jason$ kill -9 653

PS3 Media Server shuts down. Stumped...

If PMS is running while you try the commands it will be listed.
So yes, you will end up killing PMS.

Only try the recipe after you have shut down PMS.

Every time I launch PMS the looping starts...
