just bought an 8 core macpro...need advice for pms

Postby j2048b » Sun Mar 15, 2009 6:40 am

Just wondering how pms is on a macpro?

I am looking to run windows xp 64 bit and osx but want to run pms on osx and handbrake for all my conversions..

what issues are we having with pms and mac?

i am going to be running my mac wired until i get my wireless card, then maybe run it wireless (wich would be better?)

I have 2 ps3's 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs,

will have a 2.8 8 core so it will hopefully be a power house!!

any and all help will be appreciated,

any screen shots of pms on a mac?

thanks

The only big issues are no PPC support (which doesn't bother you) and no web streaming support, everything else should work the same as on XP.

A wired connection is always preferred over a wireless connection.

what is ppc support?

and i dont need to do any web streaming anyways so thats cool,

does it seem to stream any better with a more powerful computer? Probably huh?

thanks!

I have an imac 24" with 2.8ghz only 1 cpu 2 cors your mac will not even notice the sofware there should not use much cpu at all i only use about 5% when files dont have to be transcoded and 80% when they do range from 40 to 80% seems to drop when the buffer is full.

get this lastest beta http://files.exonet.nl/ps3/pms-beta-r316.zip

it has the patch so you can stream DTS mkv

hehe LOve to have a macpro but imac will have todo :)

Enable multi thread mencoder, it will jump to roughly 180%. On an 8 core MacPro should set at about 780%
Video conversion always uses all the cpu it can.

PPC = not Intel Mac. The transcoding engines used by PMS do not work on older Macs that use the PPC based processors instead of the "new" Intel processors.
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

I have an 8 core, too. I use PS3MS inside OS X and in Parallels using WIn XP. I have 4 cores assigned to Parallels. There is no limit to what it can do. Congratulations on your purchase.
