Streaming MPEG-2 video without transcoding

Postby abhijeet » Sat Mar 07, 2009 9:21 am

Hi everyone,

Is there some setting to use tsmuxer when playing a mpeg-2 stream from a dvd iso file? The server defaults to transcoding with mencoder which degrades the quality.

If that's not possible, what's the best practice to ripping DVDs so I can stream without transcoding? I tried VOBs but then the video length and seeking within the video doesn't work properly.

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ / 1.5 GB RAM / Vista Ultimate SP1 / 100 Mbps Ethernet / v 1.10.1

Thanks!

Found a solution that sort of works....

Adding this line to the codec specific parameters:
vcodec == mpeg2 && srtfile == null :: -ovc copy -nosync

Still uses mencoder, but remuxes the video.
