Music audio quality is a bit poor how do I improve it?

Postby rigsby1208 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 5:04 pm

When playing lossless WMA files from my PC through the pms, the sound quality is very average - much like a low bitrate file. The sound quality for tracks ripped and stored on the PS3 at AAC 320kbs sound fantastic. Surely the PMS should be able to transcode lossless files to an equal quality as they stream? I have a wired network, 3.4ghz quad core pc running xp, so dont think there should be problem there.
Will choosing a different audio engine help??

Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Should I just convert the WMA's to something else and copy them to the PS3 hard drive?

Lossless formats (or anything not MP3 or AAC) usually is just decoded and streamed as uncompressed PCM. You should see "PCM" as format when playing the file on the PS3.
