Edit: I have only tested Half-SBS and I expect ExSport is right that Full-SBS won't work

Theoretically we can make simple sanity check (frame size above 1920x1080 + aspect rate) to detect Full SBS and automatically scale them down to Half-SBS with mencoder.
It sounds not so hard to implement.

@SubJunk
Yes I know(fulSBS on BluRay) but I thought we are talking here about DLNA/UPnP capabilities
Is it really needed for this sanity check to downscale FullSBS? If conf includes 1920x1080 limitation, it will be always downscaled, whatever it is.
But one tip: we should not define limits to 1920x1080 in conf file but to 1920x1088. All renderers should support this resolution(also native for Sat TV) due to 16x16 divisibility (1080 is not divisible by 16)
But it should be tested, I forgot my last tests with this resolution so can't say if it is widely supported(but it should be due to supported SAT TV but it is not DLNA)
But my short memory say me that records from sat tv were playable directly on PS3/TV without any downscaling.

I can confirm that 1920x1088 is supported by PS3 via DLNA. Test files are in MPEG1 and MPEG2 in MPEG-PS container folder http://www.mediafire.com/?fo4b48iiwr3b2
Anyway aspect-rate is more important here because for SBS we should downscale exactly 2 time horizontally or vertically.

 I am noob, yes resolution exceedes only in horizontal value but vertical one stay same (1080) 8-)
Thanks for confirmation. Then it is waste of resources when somebody tries to play SAT captures so PMS tries to transcode them because of "wrong" limitaion defined in our conf files.

To answer the question of the thread... yes, all my 3D SBS movies work perfectly through PMS.

One thing I found interesting though is that my 3D movies play better via the DLNA services of my tv and not so much through my PS3.
They load faster and play smoother. So all I do now is switch the input on my TV to DLNA, it sees PMS and I can browse my stuff and play them. I don't even need to turn on my PS3.

I mention this cuz some people out there might have TV's that support DLNA and maybe you can give this a try and let me know how it works for you?

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I've been using PS3MediaServer on linux for a while, streaming via ethernet and it has played everything great. I recently upgraded the TV to Samsung UE46ES8000 and the 3D is working fine from 3D blu-rays played on the PS3, but I have a few SBS mkv files and when I try to stream them, it's not working - The files stream, but they are literally side by side. I see this on the TV:

Image

I confess I don't yet understand "side-by-side" and how it makes its way into watchable stereoscopic 3D, but I'm assuming something gets converted somewhere.

There are no settings on the PS3 or the TV I can adjust, as they are only available when the TV has "woken" 3d mode when (I assume) it detects a 3d source. I've tried all the things in this thread except look for non-repo versions of mencoder, tsMuxeR and ffmpeg. I'm using PMS 1.52.1

Suggestions welcome! :)

It's the TV's job to put the two side by side images together to a 3D image. You should have an option in the TV menu to set this.
If you always wanted to have your most recent videos at the top of the folder in the ps3 or wished you could group all videos with the same genre in one folder, have a look at pms-mlx

@SubJunk - did you ever get around to fixing this?

I tried using both PMS and UMS with my LG 3d tv, and Full SBS only shows "This file is invalid". Half SBS works just fine.
