PSM can´t find ps3 -- Solved

Postby Tassel » Tue Jan 20, 2009 3:37 pm

Hi

I know that there are other posts regarding this but I´m about to pull my hair off here.
No matter how I try PSM never finds my ps3. I have tried everything I found regarding this issue but to no avail.
PSM is up and running so I can´t see any problem there.
Sure there must be something that I miss, and I´m not to good when it comes to networking.

Hope somebody can help get this wonderful program working, (have seen it at my pals house and was blown away by it).

EDIT: I´m running vista ultimate 32bit

Re: PSM can´t find ps3

I've just started using this great app on Vista Home pro, and have had a few problems with the PS3 not seeing it (not complaining as it still works better than the alternatives out at there). I have found that I have a PS3 Media Server service, but if I run it this then when I run the gui to change settings it never thinks that the PS3 has connected (even if it is working ok).

Anyway I have found the best way for me to get the PS3 to connect, is to:

1: Stop and disable the "PS3 Media Server" service
2: On Windows firewall manually add an exception to allow connections in on TCP 5001
3: Fire up the app from the desktop shortcut
4: run "netstat -a" from a cmd line prompt to confirm that the pc is listening on port TCP 5001

TCP 192.168.0.20:5001 homepc:0 LISTENING

i.e. you should see a line from the output of the command with :5001 on the end of it. The ip address before should be in the same subnet as the PS3

If I do all of this it works. If there is no line with port 5001 listening then the app is not working properly (try to uninstall and reinstall). If the line is there and it still doesn't find it then the PS3 is not looking for UPNP servers or there maybe a network problem.

Hope this helps,
Rob

Thanks for the reply.

Just found what was wrong. In my router the ps3 was detecded as a generic device. Changed it to a gaming console, and now it works.

Never say that you have tried everything. There is always something that you have missed. ;)
