Best way to play a Youtube Video?

Postby puntloos » Mon Sep 06, 2010 9:17 pm

Well subject says it all, but I can elaborate a bit

Say you have a youtube URL - ex: - Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody!
Say you want to play it on your main screen. In HD (the video has 720p AND 1080p), and obviously with some caching so it won't stutter..

How would you go about doing it?

- Would you use PS3 Media server somehow?
- Would you perhaps download the video source with a youtube ripper?
- Would you use a site like and just use the ps3 browser? (annoying to copy the YT url into the browser but OK..)

Any chance this could work with a youtube playlist as well?

How can I stream YouTube feeds/videos?

  • PS3:

If you have a PS3, the easiest way is to install the PS3 YouTube app.

  • PMS Plugins:

Install PMSEncoder and add YouTube feeds to your WEB.conf e.g. (from the sample PMSEncoder WEB.conf):

    Code: Select all
    # YouTube: Freddie Wong

To create a feed of your YouTube favourites (replace <username> with your YouTube username):

    Code: Select all

For playlists, see here. For more details, see YouTube's feed creation tool.

Individual YouTube videos can be added as video streams e.g.:

    Code: Select all

  • Browser:

    1. (see this thread for details).

    2. YouTube Leanback.
