Using PS3 with a NAS share

Postby cern » Wed Jun 30, 2010 3:15 pm

1 - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6660 @ 2.40GHz - 4GB RAM - Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) Service Pack 1 - PS3MS version 1.11.369
2 - All wired Gb network (CAT 5e). PC -> Linksys WRT54G -> Dell Power Connect 2716 (unmanaged switch) -> PS3
3 - Streaming to PS3
4 - MEncoder transcoding engine
5 - Currently I use an internal hard drive and an MyBook external hard drive (USB) to store all of my movie content. Everything works great. However, I am in need of more storage and wish to be more secured with redundancy. I purchased a Seagate BlackArmor 440 NAS device. I have mapped a share (X:) to the PC running PS3MS. PS3 sees the share. However, when I go to render the movie from my PS3 I get "DLNA protocol error". I have only one movie that I have copied to the NAS for testing. The NAS volume is a 6TB NTFS share. Given my network configuration, speed of the NAS drives, etc. this should not be an issue. I searched the forum and found no issues with using NTFS and PS3MS. Even trying to view the content from my PC using Media Player does not render the movie.
6 - A debug.log shows no information.

a) Try with the latest beta (with media library enabled) - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3217
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3507&start=10#p15836
b) FYI: The WRT54G is only 100mbit, so your PC and PS3 need to be on the switch for the full gigabit connection (not sure if they are based on your description)
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

I will give that a try meskibob. Yes, both the PS3 and PC are on the gigabit switch.

The latest beta with media library enabled fixes the DLNA error. However, when I go to play the movie from PS3 it simply does nothing. It is as if PMS is not reading the NTFS share. I watch the disk activity on the NAS and the LEDs for the disks don't even flicker. I can write to the NAS without issue and read documents, etc., but PMS seems to have an issue with network attached storage. Any assistance you can provide meskibob is greatly appreciated. I have $1,000 in this NAS setup and want to make it work.
