FFmpeg video converter has stopped working

Postby saeba79 » Fri Feb 20, 2009 5:08 am

1- your computer specs - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2400 MHz; 6gb Memory; Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
2- the network connection you are using for streaming your files - Wireless N
3- detailed infos on what's not working - ffmpeg dies with message popup - "FFmpeg video converter has stopped working". This happens when I drill into the folder and before I've selected a file to play; thumbnails are not turned on
4- if you're transcoding some videos, which engine are you using ? avisynth/mencoder - but not transcoding yet
5- debug file:

Code: Select all

well in fact, I don't see a bug
you have a message box on vista ? if yes, that means the ffmpeg is incompatible or does not work with your system (quite rare)

I'd tried using a couple of older versions of ffmpeg from the ffmpeg project page - no change. I'll try going back a bit further.

The other thing I've tried is just removing ffmpeg. Doing this, I don't get thumbnails, don't get program times, but playback seems to work. Am I missing out on a lot if I run without ffmpeg?

Thanks!

Well.... I tried out 10 different versions of ffmpeg... and most of them had problems with some of the variety of fansubbed anime files I have. I'm trying out revision 12810 from 2008-04-14 currently and it seems to be working thus far. Anyone having similar problems, you can find ffmpeg releases here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=205275&package_id=248632.

Given my struggle to find a ffmpeg release that supports all the file formats I watch... I ask again: what's the downside to running PS3 Media Server without ffmpeg?

Thanks!!

well I concur that anime videos are the worst encoded videos in the world
actually ffmpeg errors shouldn't prevent the server to work... you will just miss the video length and the thumbnails
