Faster!!

Postby J Mo » Tue Jan 20, 2009 8:27 am

I am just wondering if there is a way to make the media server reach higher speeds? I get about 9MB/s with PS3 media server and a little over 12MB/s with vilvic media server. PS3 media server is way better so I want to use it but I can't figure out why it isn't reaching top speed. I have the bandwidth limit set to 0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Both the PC and the PS3 are on a wired connection.
I know my router limits me to 12.5MB/s.

How is your router limiting you to 12.5Mb/s?

If you know thats your limit set you PMS to 12

what kind of file are you streaming?

How do you observe these numbers ? On the PS3 (by pressing SELECT) or on the PC (Taskmanager or something else) ?
(And we usually discuss bandwidth in Megabits/s and not MegaBytes/s.)

LOL! I got his point although I wish I had that bandwidth! I'm guessing he is getting the figure from PS3 (select), @J Mo : just because another media server is using more bandwidth it is not necessarily better quality, the PMS will only use what is required in regards to your wlan bandwidth (Its all about the quality, not quantity!) ;)

Oh sorry... I probably should have mentioned I am only using the server to transfer files from my pc. I am not streaming videos so quality doesn't matter, only speed.
I am getting the speeds from a net monitor on my pc.
