Streaming problems!!

I just started using PS3 media server 1.04 and I am having difficulty streaming .mkv files that are 1080p. I've used a wired connection including the ps3 and my laptop via a router. I also connected directly to my ps3 with an ethernet cable and still have laggy video streaming. The bitrate jumps between 3mbps and 60 mbps all the time. I can't watch a the 1080p movie without having to pause to load it up but that doesn't help much because the bitrate drops all the time. Anyone know how I can fix this problem?
