PS3 thinks MP4 file is Mpeg1??

Postby rawveeda » Mon Jan 19, 2009 8:07 pm

Hello, I have a number of videos that are MP4 files. If I copy them to a flash drive and plug them into the ps3 the ps3 lists them as AVC files and they play fine. When I try to play them through media server the ps3 lists them as mpeg-1 & I get a data corruption error.
I figure I am doing something wrong. I did add the extension in the skip transcode for following extensions...but no luck.
(my itunes m4a files work perfectly with the skip transcode line). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

A wrong mime type assignment I guess (that's one of the weak spots of the application) ... You should open an issue on
with detailed infos on your file (debug.log file) or post the ffmpeg parsing output here if you can find it in the log

I have the same problem with version 1.04, PS3 sees my file MP4 as Mpeg1. However, when I go back to version 1.03, the very same file is seen by PS3 as AVC and the playback is working.

I don't want to stay with 1.03 because the auto-updater kept poping up all the time.

I am new to PMS and I found this software is absolutely fantastic.

Could it be a configuration setup that I missed? Please advise. Thanks.

-- UPDATE --
This problem is now corrected in version 1.10.1 which I just tried this evening.

thats all kinda weird because when mine showed up as avc they would not work, they were all mp4's or m4v's and as shagrath explained to me to force transcoding of m4v's and mp4's and they all show up as mpeg-2's and play fine now!!

Not all MPEG4 packages work, there is a quite many profiles in mp4 format. What I do is convert problematic video file to AVC/AAC profile 4.1, I use FFMPEG commandline scripts to do it.
