Newbie question #2 of the day

Postby ucf.elk » Tue Sep 15, 2009 1:28 am

Ok so I've been using PS3MS for a while but never on MKV files.

Here is my setup:
WinXP on a AthlonXP 64 3200+ 2.2GHz w/ 2.5GB RAM
D-Link DGL-4300 wired to PS3 directly.
PC is linked to a D-Link DIR-655 (which is tied to the DGL-4300).

Using the MEncoder engine on version 1.11.356.

I tried to stream MKV files but get stuttering on either 720P or 1080P. I tried different settings but still get stuttering.

Any help? I included the log file.

Oh and I apologize in advance for any newbie mistake I might have made :)

Actual after final finding some other post similar to my problem I believe the limiter is my machine.

Sorry about the thread guys. I guess I'll just mkv-->vob to stream for now until I get a better machine.

Would you think a laptop with these specs can do MKVs?

AMD Turion X2 (Dual core) 2.0GHz
4GB RAM
Windows 7

Depends if you just need to remux (needs PS3 compatible video and no subtitle support) or if you need a full transcode, as well as your source video quality. From the readme:
Requirements
============

A core 2 duo CPU (mine is a E6750, 2.66GHz) for smooth 1080p transcoding, but 720p seems to be transcodable with a good P4 :p

That was for full transcodes with a gigabit network, so for wireless-N you'll need a stronger PC to balance out the lack of bandwidth. There are plenty of posts around with people providing their setups and what they're able to watch, so do some more searching. But you atleast have a baseline for now.
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.
