Problems playing MKV files.

Postby kobus » Wed Jul 29, 2009 8:19 am

I am having problems playing mkv files on my Bravia tv, using PS3MS build 350.
When playing a mkv video file on my tv the picture looks like this: (sorry for the bad picture quality)

Image

Also there is no sound, while the debug.log reports that a english language is found.
However, on my pc the video plays normal. (good picture and sound.)
All mkv files should be transcoded using the mencoder_mt.
Selecting another MEncoder transcoder via the #-- Transcode --# folder result in the same problem.
I use CoreAVC as codec.

Here is my pms.conf file:
Code: Select all
thumbnails = true
alternativeffmpegpath = c:\\Program Files\\PS3 Media Server\\win32\\dvrms\\ffmpeg_MPGMUX.exe
mencoder_ass = true
folders = K:\\Video (HD)
engines = mencoder,tsmuxer,mplayeraudio,ffmpegaudio,tsmuxeraudio,mencoderwebvideo,mplayervideodump,mplayerwebaudio,ffmpegdvrmsremux,rawthumbs
mencoder_mt = true
mencoder_sublangs = dut,nl
mencoder_audiolangs = eng,dut
mencoder_audiosublangs = dut,off;eng,dut;*,dut
network_interface = eth3
usecache = true
mencoder_encode = keyint=3:vqscale=2:vqmin=3
mencoder_mux_compatible = false
mencoder_nooutofsync = true
autoloadsrt = true
embed_dts_in_pcm = true
language = nl
mencoder_remux_ac3 = true
forcetranscode = avi,mkv
minimized = true

And here is the part of the debug.log where the mkv video is played:
Code: Select all

well, I just noticed the server was serving pure DTS audio to the 5500 TV series, I don't know if it's supported, but it could be a side effect

in the Bravia5500.conf file ("renderers" folder), try to replace this line:

MuxDTSToMpeg=true

with a false value

I have reinstalled PS3MS, with the option "keep DTS audio in stream" set to false, and the MKV file plays great now.

I have one other problem with this video. I think this may me a Bravia-related problem, but I'm not 100% shure about that.
The video has a resolution of 1920:800. (see also bottom of the included debug.log file:
Code: Select all
Decoding MPEG2 stream (track 1): Profile: Main@4. Resolution: 1920:800p. Frame rate: 23.976

However, when this video is played on my Bravia tv, the picture is full-screen. (16:9 mode, no black bars), where I was expecting black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.
I have tried changing the picture mode of the tv (wide, 4:3, smart...) but the picture stayed full-screen.
Could it be possible that the Bravia expects a picture in 16:9 format?

I will try using the video scaler in PS3MS, setting it to 1920x1080 resolution later today to see what that will result in.

Edit:
It looks like the same problem with aspect ratios, which is reported in this topic:

try taking out mkv from the mediainfo at the bottom, it means it will be transcoded but most mkv needs to be anyway cuz its not supported natively unless its 4.1 or whatever.. i just take it out no issues at all. i use all default settings thats the only change i made, on bravia 5500.

heres my config anyway

Code: Select all
# ps3mediaserver renderer profile for Sony Bravia 5500 series
# Refer to PS3.conf for help

RendererName=Sony Bravia 5500

also make sure u have MuxDTSToMpeg=false and not set to true on ure current config, this will ruin sound. this has been set in all the latest official releases so it shouldnt be a issue unless ure using a real old config file. also there was a change to TranscodeAudio=LPCM from PCM in the latest releases. basically do not use a old config it causes issues.

its in the c:\program files\ps3 media server\renderers directory if ure running 64bit its in c:\program files (x86)\ps3 media server\renderers heres the official conf below

Code: Select all
    # ps3mediaserver renderer profile for Sony Bravia 5500 series
    # Refer to PS3.conf for help

    RendererName=Sony Bravia 5500
    RendererIcon=bravia.png

    TranscodeVideo=MPEGAC3
    TranscodeAudio=LPCM
    DefaultVBVBufSize=true
    MuxH264ToMpegTS=true
    MuxDTSToMpeg=false
    WrapDTSIntoPCM=false
    MuxLPCMToMpeg=false
    MaxVideoBitrateMbps=0
    MaxVideoWidth=0
    MaxVideoHeight=0

    Supported = f:mp3   m:audio/mpeg
    Supported = f:lpcm  m:audio/L16
    Supported = f:jpg   m:image/jpeg

just select that whole box paste it in notepad rename the file bravia5500.conf and copy it over the one in the renderers folder then restart pms.
