Streaming Audio at CD Quality...

Postby radamo » Wed Jul 15, 2009 10:07 pm

I love this media server and have been using it for a few months now. I use this mainly for streaming my CD collection to my stereo via my PS3. I have my CD collection recorded in Apple Lossless and wanted to know what settings would be used to stream at FULL CD QUALITY. Is it possible? Thanks for any help and for a great program.

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure there weren't any specific settings needed.

Bad format choice though. Rip as FLAC (a more universally recognised Lossless format) PS3MS will also stream FLAC

Other than not being "Apple centric" what advantages does FLAC offer?
Thanks,

Exactly what you say. It's not an apple format.

It's open source. Open source is good ;) (you may not always want to use Apple devices)

Because you write "FULL CD QUALITY" in caps you make the impression you really mean it. Be aware that the PS3 always resamples 44,1kHz MP3 files on its optical output.

Maybe this is different when transcoding from FLAC/Apple Lossless but i don't think so. Maybe its possible to transmit 44,1kHz over HDMI if you use it?

While usually you can't hear the difference of pure 44,1 and properly resampled 48kHz it still is a downer, imho.

I remember there's setting on PS3 which you can choose between 48kHz and 44.1kHz...

Yeah, i know. It works exactly like stated in setting the output sample rate for CD playback. Does nothing for streamed content.
