MKV has 2 subtitle tracks. I want the second one.

Postby endymioncalcite » Sun Jul 12, 2009 3:04 am

1- I have a laptop with an amd turion tl-60. 2.0 ghz. 4gb ram.
2- laptop is wirelessly connected, xbox 360 is hardwired.
3- trying to watch gurren lagann. the eps are mkv with 2 subtitle tracks. both are labeled english. the 1st one is a translation of the opening theme song and the 2nd track are the actual subtitles for the rest of the episode. how do i have ps3 ms default to the second track?
4- transcoding with avisynth/mencoder. it reads the first sub track just fine. also installed vsfilter.dll and avisynth since i started playing with it. avisynth/mencoder is the only one i can get to show subs.
5- i'm sorry but i have no idea how to read the debug file. i've zipped it like the instructions say. sorry again for the hassle. it looks involved.
6- as mentioned above i'm streaming to an xbox 360.

everything truthfully seems to work just fine except the fact that they way the mkv is organized it's got 2 separate english audio tracks. i have haali/vobsub/mencoder/avisynth all set to default to eng sub/jap audio, but how do i tell it to choose the second sub track when it too is labeled english as far as i can see. the files play just fine in vlc player when i choose the second sub track. thank you for any help you may offer. i don't have much experience dealing in video whatnot, just enough to fudge and hope it works.

Choose the second subtitle track by going through the #Transcode# folder. I don't think you'll be able to default to the second track though...

the transcode folder only has the subtitle track for the 1st english. =/ any other suggestions? my options in the transcode folder of each episode are as follows:

1. [avisynth/mencoder]
2. [tsmuxer] (x-ed out)
3. <filename> [mencoder]
4. mencoder {audio: mp3/english}
5. mencoder {audio: mp3/japanese}
6. tsmuxer {audio: mp3/english} (x-ed out)
7. tsmuxer {audio: mp3/japanese} (x-ed out)

playing option 1 gives me jap audio and eng sub track #1.

Post the MediaInfo text output for the file in question.

AviSynth = you must configure Haali yourself, ps3mediaserver cannot tell to haali/vobsub what sub tracks you want to play

well, that's a known shortcoming of haali/vobsub (I had the same problem myself, and had to extract the wanted sub track into a .srt file)
if anyone knows a trick, please tell us :p
