Non Transcoding Streaming And Wifi Settings

Postby MidniteAssassin » Thu Jan 29, 2009 3:00 am

Hi everyone!

PMS has been working almost great for me...but there is one little issue. (I'm not sure if it's the program or the PS3 though...)
Non transcoded files stutter. (simply put...)
Transcoded files played perfectly though, so I know it's not a problem with my network.

And I've ran into another problem. When trying to find ways to fix the non transcoded files, I messed up my setting so now the transcoded ones are stuttering.

(I'm working on it now though, but just to be sure, I'll ask...)
What are the best settings for a P4 2.26 GHz, on a Wireless G connection?
But, not for 720p and all that, most of my files are 700-800MB DivX-XviD files.

Here are the settings I plan on using this time...
(Anything not mentioned is left default..)

Common Transcode Settings
Transcode Buffer Size: 50
Audio Channels: 2
Maximum Bandwidth: 15
MPEG 2 Video Settings: Good Quality For HD Wifi Transcoding
Force Transcode For: avi (Because if they don't transcode they stutter.)

MEncoder:
Remux When Audio Is AC3 (Enabled).

(Update)
Those settings work too good. (Too low of a quality, the PS3 says the bitrate is about 1MB/s and less.)
What do the keyint vqmax and vqmin settings mean?

(Update 2)
Found perfect settings for my P4 2.26GHz Wireless G PC. (I've watched 2 movies all the way through with no stutters, one was a DivX(being transcoded), the other was an MKV.

MPEG 2 Video Settings: keyint=10:vqmax=1:vqmin=1
(Hope this might help anyone else having problems on an older PC, or ease the stress off the CPU for people on a newer PC.)

Of course, there still is the issue with files that aren't being transcoded...
