1080p no picture but sound and other with sloppy quality.

Postby Decco » Sat Jun 27, 2009 10:36 am

Hi there, im fairly new to PS3, PMS and etc.. so dont chop off my head if i do something wrong here :)

I tried to search and find out myself, but i end up with different results every time. solutions i've seen several times is mkv2vob or mkv2bluray?
I suppose PMS can handle .mkv since all my 720 content plays like a charm, i only have issues with 1080p films. And i thinks it's most likely my PMS setup or anything.

Just to clarily.. pms will handle 1080p without any problems ?

i can provide screensshots of my pms setup and debug.log later today, just thought i should post and see if anyone knew something about this.
Problem and short description is under each movie listed below. Movies and filename in bold, problem in itallic.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ (3GHz)
4 GB Ram
64-Bit Windows 7 build 7232

100mbit LAN

PMS 1.11.345 (installed @default directory)

Problem= plays sound and picture, but sloppy quality and studdering on action sequnce. stream uses around 30-40mbit's.. but upon action sequnce, it raises to 120mbit..normal?

nb! just to clarify, it's no other network trafic during the stream either. Just server and ps3 (no active downloads etc on the server either)

Black Hawk Down: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1979 (max reference frames)
Ghostbusters and Big Trouble in Little China: depends on the source file (could just be a bad file), your CPU, your network, and your PMS settings (specifically Max Bandwidth and Video Quality settings)
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

I thought I was the only one getting sloppy (laggy) video/sound on my ps3. As the OP I never use my network to download/upload together while streaming. Watching 720p mvk movies I never have problems with em but with 1080p movies i get sloppy stream.

I'm using 10/100mbit network
Intel Core2Duo E6600
2gb ram @ 800mhz
10.000 RPM HDD with plenty space left
EVGA 680i motherboard
XFX 9800 GTX with 512mb vram

I never have problem watching 1080p content directly on my PC connected to my 24" PC monitor, but that is no the same as streaming HD content on my 50" top of the line Pioneer-KRP500A.

I hope someone knows what to do here, I'm fairly new to PS3 Media Server so please bare with me.

generally i would say your problem is the MKV, otherwise known as n00b format. i have NEVER had MKV files work worth a crap ever, on anything. furthermore MKV file players (other than DIVX) are virus ridden, or just crap. convert them to MP4 format, you can shrink them from double the size you find them on blue ray, (thats a joke sort of, mkv files are usually HUGE) to around a gig or smaller in size and still keep your high def format. it seems the ps3 media server has a very hard time converting on the fly when mkv is involved. the best i have been able to get is 2 to 1o minute skips in a movie with little functionality.
