Issues with 64bit Java

Postby Wixner » Mon Jun 08, 2009 9:02 am

This is the first issue I've had in ages and I'm not really sure that it is an issue.

I'm running PMS 1.11.335 on a Intel Core2Quad Q9550 with 8Gb of Ram on a Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 installation. My PS3 is connected to my gigabit backbone with a shielded cat6 cable (as the rest of the backbone) and is the only DNLA-capable device.

The issue is as following.

With the 64bit version of Java 1.6.0_13 the PMS suddenly shuts down with no errors. It does not matter if it's music (mp3/flac with DTS/FLAC -> LPCM checked/unchecked) or video (xvid/divx/mkv with MEncoder and TSMuxer fallback) but with the 32bit version of the same Java this works flawlessly.

Unfortunately I am unable to get a hold of a clean logfile at the moment but I should be able to produce a clean logfile tonight.
A Hint is that MEncoder frequently enters the "non-responsive" mode and has to be manually closed in the Task manager.

I didn't do anything. Just installed the PMS using the administrator account

I'm having this problem as well. When my transcode buffer hits 0 (which I can't seem to keep it from NOT doing right now), PS3MS simply shuts down without any error dialogues from either the application or Windows. Java x32 works fine.

I have had the same issue since March, PSM works perfectly under Java x86. But once I install Java x64 transcoding fails completely and I get the network error issue and PSM just shuts down without errors. When I looked at the log afterwards I noticed a fatal error regarding memory, however I am running 6GB DDR3 and since it runs fine on x86 Java I'm not really sure what the issue is. No one seems to know what is causing the issue but I have seen quite a few posts about this.

I'm still having this issue when trying to use the 64bit java install in the 350 beta. PS3MS silently crashes without explanation or error dialog.
