For help and support with PS3 Media Server in general
I see that if you use CoreAVC with AVISynth you can use Nvidia's CUDA to assist in the decoding of x264 content, which takes a large load off the CPU. Is there an ATI equivalent that one can use? I find that x264 content gives my Core2Duo 3.16 Ghz machine with 4 gigs RAM a run for its money (even with Mencoder MT enabled) with the odd spike to 100% CPU usage. It would be great if there was some way to use my Radeon 4870 to reduce the load on the CPU.
Any such feature / tool / software, or are there any plans to support it?

be aware that the beginning of the transcode will use always 100% cpu during some time, in order to fill up the transcode buffer... after that, the cpu is usually not used to its fullest

ATI has Stream Computing, which is their answer to CUDA. Unfortunately, it does not accelerate x264 and I do not think they have any designs to do so. They pretty much leave it to others to use Stream Computing so hopefully some enterprising soul lik our Shagrath here can bring home the bacon, or maybe some company like CoreAVC's creator can partner with AMD.
