Videos don't play, just a black screen

I can't get ps3 media server to work properly. I can discover the media server, open the list of videos. They show up, thumbnails are created for them but when I try to play them the XBC goes away and the screen just sits there black. Hitting the circle button takes me back to my list.

When I select a file the media server shows it's serving the file...but it's not displaying on the tv.

The pc hosting media center is running version 1.03. It's on wired network connection and is running xp sp3 with a core2duo and 2gb of ram, it's plenty fast enough. The PS3 is also on a wired connection and is running the latest update (the image gallery one).

The videos are a combination of divx, xvid, and x264 and all show up as MEPG-2 or Divx. I've also tried playing the videos that show up in the #TRANSCODE# folder, they do the same thing...just a black screen

Any ideas?

Do you wait enough? My screen stands still in black for 10-15 seconds before the movie starts to play.

Yes, I let it sit there for 3-5 minutes.

even non-transcoded videos (divx for instance) shows a black screen ? if yes, that must be a PS3-TV setup issue

this happened to me with SOME videos. under mencoder, try flicking a/v sync, and/or force framerate

Under MEncoder a/v sync is currently enabled, force frame rate is not.

I'll disable a/v sync first, then try the other one.

I had a similar experience.
The PS3 Media Server DOES need a good network connection.
Wireless will not cut it.

I have both my PS3 and the PC running media server on wired connections.
