advice needed - wired network

Postby Gil » Sun May 03, 2009 8:01 pm

I think I'm going to break down and wire up my home network, but I'd like some advice from the people here before I do.

Running an i7 920 @3.8Ghz with 6GB RAM and a GTX280, so transcoding's shouldn't be an issue.

First of all will this router http://www.dlink.ca/products/resource.a ... 1796&sec=0 be able to handle the throughput from a 1080p transfer? Or will I need to get a different router? And if so what should I be looking at to make sure I won't have problems?

In other words: What is the minimum requirement for a wired network to run 1080p, and what kind of setup would you personally choose?

Thanks in advance,
-Gil

If you run it wired, it'll handle pretty much all 720p and some/most 1080p. However, since it's not a gigabit router you'll probably see stuttering on intense 1080p scenes (eg Planet Earth's "flock of cranes" scene). If you run it wireless (the name is "RangeBooster" ;)) then you're going to stutter for sure.
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.
